Forums - Sales - Smashing Japan: A Look at the First Ten Weeks of Smash Brothers Sales

Well there's no way that's right because we all know that SSB:B, like every other Nintendo game on the Wii, is only selling to fans of the previous game that they have bought on the GC, meaning that it'll sell 400k this week, 200k next week, which will put it at SSB:M levels, and drop like a rock. And this of course comes from the wise CrazzyMan. He has spoken!

Edited to make it more readable, and less like something that Crazzy would have actually written.

Nice info; I think SSBB will only be beat by Wii Fit/Play and Mario Kart Wii.

PS: Can you fix your table width though so we could actually ready weeks 9 and 10 w/o copy paste into Textpad.

@ioi

It really depend if the casuals feed into the hype, if they do then SSBB could have WiiFit Type legs.

Also, what were the shipment numbers for week two? Is it still a virtual sellout?

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

nice analysis though i cant see the last weeks

it's good analysis but brawl will make definitely better than you think. brawl(and kart in future)will be just like sports for wii - a game that every wii owner will be buying with console or when he will get bored with wii sports. this game will be a basic game just like sports or play(just like kart and maybe wii fit if there will be many games that will require balance board). so i think that sales of brawl will be better than wii fit sales(i think that brawl will make more than 3.5mln in japan before game will hit america)

Personally, TheSource, I see games selling now, based not on their own merits, like they were forced too on the PS2 last gen, but on the lack of AAA titles surrounding them.

For instance, there is no way DMC 4 would have launched to such great numbers in Japan, if it had launched on the PS2, in the PS2's prime years, from a userbase ratio standpoint.

It's a common misconception that DMC's sales were as high as they were due to a hardcore DMC fanbase already in place, however, I feel this is incorrect.

I feel DMC 4 brought a lot of new gamers into the series who didn't have anything to play on their PS3's besides, well, DMC 4, at the time of its release. Particularly, no games that appeal to a Japanese audience.

This also accounts to the huge sales of Melee and Kart on the Gamecube, which had lackluster 3rd party support and wildly spaced out 1st party releases.

I feel it will also translate into great legs on Brawl sales throughout 2008 in Japan, and holiday 08 sales of the game, though, as always, Mario Kart can steal any games thunder, but I feel a lot of the same gamers who bought Brawl will also buy Kart, while that isn't necessarily true with Galaxy for some reason, as we've seen.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

^yeah you have a point there.
i also hope that brawl and kart will help SMG sell even more
