Forums - Nintendo - Bought 3DS on impulse - game recommendations?

If you're into puzzle games, get the latest Professor Layton (Miracle Mask), not only is it the best in the series, it's also guaranteed to give you a ton of hours with the 365 daily puzzles you'll unlock once you finish the game (they've almost released all of them, last one is gonna be on October 25th).

Also, going to give my personal nod to the RPG choices that have been said already, pointing out that Mario&Luigi: Dream Team Bros is the best Mario RPG since Super Mario RPG on the SNES

Well well well. If someone ask an advice about which games to buy for 3ds, this is my list:

Zelda Ocarina of Time 3d;
Star fox 64 3d;
Super Mario 3d Land;
Mario Kart 7;
Kid Icarus Uprising (BEST VIDEOGAME EVER MADE);
Luigi's Mansion 2;
Fire Emblem Awakening;
Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros;
Resident Evil Revalations;
Professor Layton games;
Animal Crossing New Leaf;
Pokemon X & Y;
Zelda A Link Between Worlds (release on November 22)

Also since you love RPGs there are some really good ones on it:

Etrian Odissey IV;
Shin Megami Tensei 4;
Kingdom Hearts 3d Dream Drop Distance;
Tales of the Abyss (porting);
Bravely Default (coming in Europe on December 6, I don't know when will come in USA).

The lineup is very big, it's up to you to choice the games you want to play and please don't listen to haters that say "the 3ds is a shitty console because it hasn't any game".

People are already pointing you in the right direction - obviously get the staples: Mario 3D Land, Ocarina, Fire Emblem Awakening, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Pokemon X/Y, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing... depending on which suit your interest.

But I'll add this since you mention you like point-and-click: Get 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (which is for DS) and then Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, its sequel, which is a 3DS game. Probably the best adventure game experience I've ever had.

Another interesting game I just bought (for like 13€ bought at zavvi.com 2for25pounds deal) is Virtues Last Reward (I have no clue what genre it is tho. Story driven mystery/puzzler?) A little bit like Professor Layton which itself is also a nice series.

Thanks for the tip, just went there and bought Virtues Last reward and Super street fighter IV for 25pounds! great deal.

Thanks to others for lots of other suggestions, it seems that there is a lot action waiting for me on the 3DS

Ah. Sounds like you already took my advice without knowing it about Virtue's Last Reward! I hope you've played 9,9,9 before though. VLR is infinitely more enjoyable if you're already familiar with the background.

Managed to get Super Mario 3D land pre-owned for cheap. Now I can't wait till the 3ds arrives. Feeling a bit of regret for not going for the Zelda edition, but it'll pass.

I see that I'll have to get Fire Emblem, although I'm completely unfamiliar with the series. Also am interested in Star Fox since I've never played it for longer than 5 min.

Steel Diver, Asphalt 3D, and Pilot Wings Resort.

The nice thing about FE: Awakening is that even though it refers to past Fire Emblem games, it is entirely self-contained. From what I've played, it's the best introduction to the series for any new player, be they strategy veterans or general gaming neophytes. It's also good in that its as casual or hardcare as you choose to make it. It can be moderately easy or insanely difficult, based on your preferences.

Star Fox is a great game... but you can see all it has to offer in about 4 hours. An amazing four hours with awesome gameplay and visuals, but still four hours. High scores are a major part of the game, so if that doesn't appeal to you, I'd recommend only getting Star Fox 64 3D for a fairly low price.

Me personally: I bought SF64 3D for $10 (it was on sale), played it through a few times, and sold it back for $5. Best rental ever.

Bought Star Fox too! Wasn't aware that the port had updated graphics - that has tipped the scale for me. The game looks great.

Oddly, I find myself mostly hyped for games that I thought I wouldn't be hyped at all

Now I have (ordered by my hype level, descending):

Star Fox 3d

SSF IV

LoZ:OoT

Zero escape: VLR

Super Mario 3D land

I think that should get me sttled on the system. With my looooooooong Steam backlog, this is going to last me till the end of next year.

Hopefully this will help. ^_^

I was watching to buy a x360 or PS3 to compliment my Wii and Pc, but just couldn't justify the investment...   So, instead diving into HD console gaming, I've ordered 3DS XL on total impulse.

Interested in PS360, couldn't justify so purchases a 3DS on impulse which has even less quality exclusives.  Makes no sense.

I'd recommend Shin Megami Tensei 4, Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate, Shinobi, Fire Emblem, Super Mario 3D Land, Cave Story 3D, and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

I'd say get some DS games if you don't have a DS.  With the lack of good 3DS exclusives, I play regular DS games more on my 3DS than I do 3DS games.
