Forums - Gaming - Now that the 7th gen is practically over, how would you compare it to the 6th gen?

I´m mainly talking about the fun you´ve had with 7th gen consoles and games when compared to the 6th gen.

Basically, I mean things like this:

Mario Sunshine vs Mario Galaxy

GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas vs GTA IV and V

Jak and Daxter trilogy vs Uncharted trilogy

God of War 1 and 2 vs God of War 3 and Ascension

Halo 1 and 2 vs Halo 3, Reach and 4

And so on

The overall fun you had during the 6th gen, how is it compared to the fun you´ve had in the 7th?

Well, This is the first console gen I've fully participated in, so I'm going with 7th. But I'm hardly considering this gen over. The last game for the PS2 isn't even launched yet. The ps2 sold in bulk years after the ps3 was out. and I'm betting the ps3 and 360 both have 1 or 2 decent years salewise left.

The 6th generation was somewhat better in my opinion, as far as games are concerned. But it was better than the 5th generation.

Longer.

I think I liked 7th more.

Ratchet had 2 great installments both gens though I'd give this gen the edge because Q4B was also awesome.

Batman didn't have anything last gen and 2 awesome installments this gen.

Jak trilogy beat Uncharted in my mind but if we count LoU in then maybe ND did do better this gen

Sly had my favorite installment this gen but 2 and 3 may have been more awesome combined

Twisted Metal 2012 was better than Black to me so that wins

Resistance 3 is a masterpiece (favorite FPS ever)

GTA4 and 5 were just about even with 3 and Vice City in my mind and SA was horrible so I say they're even

MGS3 was better than 4 but both were fantastic (3 is my second favorite game ever)

Heavy Rain and Beyond are masterpieces

GoW1 and 2 beat the other 2 EVER so slightly imo

Oblivion and Skyrim beat were great and I never played ES before this gen

Journey and Flower I didn't have an equivalent last gen

Of course we didn't have Plus last gen giving us a gazillion free games

On the Nintendo side

Galaxy beats Sunshine

Brawl beats Melee

WW beats SS (TP was cross gen so it's a wash)

Overall I like 7 more and of course with HD collections and PS1-2 classics there's no competition.

Most of this discussion can be summed up by the comparison between Resident Evil 5/6 and Resident Evil 4.

6th & 7th gen were the only time i was a multi system owner.
Gamecube > Wii
I had more fun on gamecube. So many brilliant games. Sunshine #1

ps 2 < ps 3
Dat graphics leap! Game variety stayed the same. Fewer exclusives.

XBOX = x360
Lesser graphical gap. Fewer interesting exclusives. Increased multiplats.

tie!

6th gen, we didn't have DLC, disc locked DLC, system updates that's took forever, games that shipped unfinished so we could be be charged 100 dollars instead of 50, didnt have online codes, didn't have to wait for game updates, didn't have mandatory installs, didn't have to worry about games crashing because devs could rely on the Internet to patch them....need I go on?

The six gen was the last gen where consoles were consoles and not mini PCs. I'll always remember it as the peak of the industry. The 7th gen was probably the beginning of the end. Lol

6th gen focus on the gameplay and took risk with a low budget, 7th gen, few gems and too much hype for most of the games that only stay relevant for about a month and a half and I fear next gen won't be any different.

I miss my Gamecube and PS2 (TT_TT)

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Based simply on memory I remember having a lot more fun with 6th gen games than 7th gen games. Though I believe that had more to do with being a child throughout last gen. There is no doubt had I magically managed to play Skyrim, GTA V, Halo 3, God of War 3, or even any of the Call of Duty games as a little kid, my mind would have been completely blown over how good those games were. Heck as a child I even enjoyed shit like 102 dalmatians. But as I grew older games in general just lost some of their magic. Don't get me wrong I still love playing them. There is just no way anything can match playing through metroid prime the first time as a 10 year old now that I'm older.

Basically if someone tells me I can only play 7th gen or 6th gen games for the rest of my life, I would pick 7th gen. But I had more fun with 6th gen at the time.

I think it was better - a larger variety of games, more games that are 'art' with their stories, graphics, and interactions. More ways to play games, from the Wiimote, Balance Board, Eye Toy/Move, and Kinect.

The move from SD to progressive and 720p and even 1080p was spectacular. Games become more immerseive and you can lose yourself in them. I remember watching the sunset in Zelda: Twilight Princess. And then the northern lights in Skyrim.

Plus, we can still have some fun 2D platforms.

But the move to more realistic looking games has been one of my favorite improvements (Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, Halos (Reach, 3, and Anniversary), and things like that.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
