True, but those countries have probably favored the PS2 up until now. That's why Sony continued manufacturing PS2 up until January of this year. The PS3 is probably only really starting to break ground in those countries now and will continue to be manufactured for at least 5 more years with those countries in mind.

Do you think our tracking in those countries will improve, now that we're transitioning from PS2 to PS3 sales?

Well, it might be realistic. The PS4 is "only" releasing at $400 so the initial gap won't be as big as PS2 vs PS3, which might lead more people to jump to PS4. Also, it is getting harder and harder for companies to justify FABing a custom chip for 10+ years. Finally, what about USED system sales. I think more people on this site are concerned with the 100M mark than Sony is.
Bottom line is overall the PS3 was successful. You don't need to hit some arbitrary number to prove that. Especially after a rough start compared to the PS2. It's "legs" were impressive. I definitely don't think 100 million is certain like you say, but I wouldn't rule it out completely either. Definitely going to be a stretch.
IMO, the console generations will get shorter and shorter.

I was [half] joking with you. And bolded above. All corps are "greedy" by gamers standards. That includes Sony! and Nintendo! (VC I'm looking at you)
So the joke, was, we are "taking" the games market from greedy Microsoft and giving it to... who? Sony? Nintendo? Valve? APPLE? pick your poison dude. These companies sell entertainment, the polar opposite of necessity, so expect to bend over.
Want to take it back. Your only hope is COMPETITION. No other way around it.
The PS3 has had a remarkable turnaround, but lets not forget the huge losses Sony inccured also. Have Microsoft lost money on the 360 or have they ended up turning a profit? genuine question.

That really depends if the site can get more tracking data from those countries. Some retailers are more forthcoming with data than others.
