I wonder what the real gap would be if you removed all the second and third console purchase because of the system crapping out. I owned 3 Xbox360 this generation and briefly one PS3 before re-selling it again because lack of time to play video game and just couldn't get used to playing with PS3 controller.

My original Xbox 360 Pro died a long time ago...

My Xbox 360 Elite which I gave to my nephew just got three red ring of death three month ago.

I heard that PS3 were having some problem too, but it's probably save to bet that both system install base.... PS3 would be much greater then Xbox 360's due to system failure.

Honestly... what needs to happen. We let Microsoft and their greedy ways lead the games market for far too long. Its time to take it back.

Yeah yeah very nice congrats to ps3 for kicking ass but i'm more excited to see that nice 80m number in two weeks! ^__^

I remember back when xbox players always pointed out how the ps3 was behind in sales. I was so confused as to the stupidity behind this comment since the ps3 was released a year later and would only naturally be behind the 360 in terms of sales. I mean, all these guys have obviously eaten their socks right now with a healthy side of skid-marked boxers - but to claim a victory over something so stupid - and especially post 2009/2010 when you could easily argue the case that the ps3 is catching up even though it came out a year later. I'm sure their feelings were hurt. What an interesting generation this has been.

Don't forget that Steam is getting ready to enter the console space in its own way. So if they do things right, they can be stiff competition.

The PS3 floundered at launch and Sony was in a bad situation for most of the PS3's time until Kaz came to take office as CEO. So Sony was doing bad and positive 360 forecasts weren't bad. Few had expected the 360 to have kind of saturated in its biggest market, the US.

(In contrast, in Europe, ever since release, the PS3 has been beating the 360 on average in weekly sales during its lifetime)

Absolutely, the PS# MORE than floundered at the start. It was a disaster! Hahaha. But still, what I am trying to say is, when someone claims a vitory that their machine sold more even though it was on the market for an extra year - i just never understood how someone can claim that a victory. Its been on the market for an extra year, of course it would sell more. The way I saw it was the 2 systems were pretty much on par with one another midway through the generation onwards. Even saying the PS3 beat 360 at this point, I mean - sure they passed them in sales, but these 2 machines are so close they might as well be regarded as equals. Both had their failures and both had their successes - but there was never a clear dominance of one over the other a la PS2 vs gamecube/xbox or even Wii vs PS3/360.

Haha, yeah I see what you mean. I think the competition was so stiff between both consoles that the fans were just eager to declare a winner, though it's true that when you look at it they're so close that saying one console beat the other is kind of cute.

Having said that, I think that the promise the 360 was showing led people to declare an early victory, due to some booming success for the 360 after the release of the S model and the Kinect, however it now appears that that success was a bit short-lived.

Mind you! The success of the S and of Kinect are mostly seen during thanksgiving and the holidays, so maybe my words will be proven once again false by this holiday season. That is the beauty of following the sales in this industry, they are really so unpredictable, and that's the funnest part about it.

It will only get bigger unless MS has some EXTREME price cuts along with bundles. As far as exclusives go they only have Fable Anniversary, timed DLC for COD Ghosts and Battlefield 4 and Titanfall only being on the 360/XB1/PC for the time being.
