Forums - Gaming - Prepare your bandwidth: Killzone Shadow Fall size to be 50 GB

Killzone shadow fall will be 50gb. Those who have slower internet speed think again. Fortunately I will be getting retail copy (as always) to play this game.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara revealed that Killzone Shadow Fall will have a size of more than 50 GB, so it’ll take a while to download it from the PSN – although fortunately, with the “Play as you Download” functionality, players won’t have to wait before enjoying the game.

There are big innovations in the PS4 to make it more attractive and more easy gamer wise to want to download. The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don’t need the whole file before you go. This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.

It is still a relatively tedious process. We’ve done a lot of work on pre-delivering files. It’s not perfect. It’s not seamless. The file version of the game versus the disc version of the game maybe needs to go through additional QA and additional testing. Some of the problems that have occurred have occurred on older machines, which of course when you go into the next-generation you at least get to reset and start again and everything’s the same age and new. That helps.

But it’s a major area of focus. It’s a major area of investment. The network will perform better on multiple levels, because it becomes not just a sales or gaming delivery but increasingly it becomes a social network. So it’s got to be a compelling experience on multiple levels. It’s going to be for no lack of investment, for no lack of effort and no lack of intention that things might fall a bit short. But we’re definitely moving in the right direction, and I’m confident when step on and understand its importance.

Still, that might be an issue for some users who have a monthly cap. Regardless, as you can read above Gara reiterated that Sony is committed to improving the quality of the PlayStation Network as a whole.

Thank god they implemented play as you download, but ill still be getting the boxed copy.

Embarrassingly (I know, I know), I still have a download limit on my connection. And it's 40GB. So, this would take me 2 months to download unless I wanted to pay extra :P

I don't think this is a precise calculation, but I'm not sure why this would be a surprise, some PS3 games were around 50GB

I reckon they'll put a bit more effort into compression before launch, but you should still expect huge file sizes

What I do wonder is how much of it needs to be installed if you buy the disc? Because at 50GB, the default HDD can only store 10 games, which kind of sucks

perfect! so i am going to play instantly when hitting that download button. i don't mind if i'm just a mono-coloured pixel without weapons or enemies. gonna rush through the game before its finished.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Suddenly a 500GB HDD does not seem big enough.

Ha ha ha. Thats funny. I mentioned "fortunately" to show my view for retail copy. I always get retail copy as I perceive digital games as long time rental. I missed may psn only games for this belief. But this gen might be different because I might try a few digital games. Still I will always try to resist digital games.

The "Play as you download" isn't everything they are making it out to be for either console. On a 50gb game, how much will it need downloaded before it can even do a base install? 10gb? 20gb? 30gb? Probably half. So, even if you want, digitally the game is going to take a little while to download before you get started. But, if you go retail on it, you still have the time and money involved in going to pick it up. So, maybe it's a wash... I doubt it though.

Finally a game bigger than Uncharted 3 :D can't wait to download it for 15 hours! Or maybe PS4 won't limit my speed and I will it in around 7 hours, yay!
Anyway, time to think about a 1TB or more hybrid drive...

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

"Sony lied to me" thread incoming

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
