Forums - Gaming - Crytek CEO: Ryse wouldn’t have run at 1080p on PS4 (Decision was choice, not hurdle)

People can't even agree that 1080p is better than 900p. And that, my dear friends, is the madness of console wars.

I still remember when people said Wii U is so powerful that all games run at 1080/60p. Good times. It was all "GPGPU!!!1!!1" back then, nobody talked about the cloud...

I personally couldn't care less, I can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p, because I'm sitting too far away from my TV. But there are some people who notice the difference and for them 1080p is nice without a doubt. Also, remember that most TVs today run Full HD resolution. So 1080p will hit that sweet native resolution spot, delivering the best image possible.

Are the games not fun below 1080p? No. But it's still nice to have.

Ryse will still turn out to be a pretty looking game, aesthetics is what is most important to me.

I really hope this is sarcasm.

I suggest you edit your post.

"Crytek can take their gameish tech demos and......... "

Nah, I just gave him a better example of a "gameish tech demo." I don't see the issue.

Sure, trying to defend a game that your interested in by taking a shot at a game with potential intention to infuriate others. So please enlighten me, how is Beyond Two Souls a "gameish tech demo"?

Why is that? I prefer a certain detail to pretty graphics any day.

I swear, every time this guy opens his mouth...and when I think that I used to really like Crytek in days of FarCry 1...these days I twitch whenever I see some news about them, expecting yet another "wisdom" from him.

The truth is most people really won't notice any difference between 900p upscaled and native 1080p. In fact, given the average size of TVs people game on (usually between 32-42 inches) and the distance at which they sit from them, most people are hard pressed to spot the difference between 720p and 1080p. Even with perfect 20/20 vision you have to be sitting quite close to your screen to get the optimal benefit from that higher resolution. It's a much more important issue for PC gamers than console gamers.

No, he's saying there isn't significant difference between 900p and 1080p. He feels people can't really tell the difference. Perhaps he's right when you put on some of that anti-alising... antistropic filtering... and whatever else they do to hide jaggies.

For example, I didn't even know GT5 was 1080p. Riddled with jaggies!

GT5 is 1080p but far from Full-HD.

So GG aiming for 30fps in a shooter as design choice -> good. (This was the common opinion be4 mp 60fps).
DC club "aiming" for 60fps while 30fps by now -> good.
Crytek lowering resolution for (in their opinion) no visual difference -> bad.

900p means the image is more blurry and every form of post processing anti aliasing further blurs the image, so the difference between 900p and 1080p actually is quite visible, especially with higher aa (exception is fsaa, but fsaa means rendering in a higher res than display res, which ofcourse is the opposite of what is done here).

btw GT5 was 1280x1080p with vertical scaling and not full 1920x1080p

Guerilla Games: Very good reputation

Evolution Studios: Good reputation

Crytek: Very bad reputation

But seriously, more is always better. Of course everyone would prefer 60 fps and 1080p no matter what game. And on the other hand, of course it's a minor issue. But if you really want to compare, Killzone with 1080p and 30fps is a lot better than Ryse with 30 fps and 900p in my book, especially considering that Killzone looks better so far.
