It really wouldn't. One million lifetime as an absolute maximum. I don't think Nintendo has close to enough money to buy Rockstar out of the 30+ million sales they would be losing.

I dont think it works that way. Take-Two market cap in 2012 was only 1.11 billion USD. If Nintendo bought the company at that time, Rockstar would have no choice but to release GTAV as a WiiU exclusive. But buying exclusivity from Take-Two would be an entirely different matter.

But why would they do that? They weren't going to make close to $1.11 billion from GTA V if it were Wii U exclusive.

They get a lot of valuble ip and have the potential to reach a market they haven't been able to reach before? With EA no longer providing sports games for WiiU, having 2K Sports in their corner would'nt hurt. Having huge western development resources sounds like a decent investment to me in the long term. Seriously. You dont think GTAV would drive hardware sales for Nintendo, or all the other Take-Two ip's?

It could reach 35 mil lifetime if it has amazing legs.

If the multiplayer proves itself, definitely.

PS3 got a huge boost with the GTA5 bundle aswell.

Rockstar would probably leave Take-Two before that happened and buy the GTA IP for themselves.

Developers could rebel if it was a hostile takeover. That much is true.

Sales are sales

Your kidding me right?  Could you imagine the idea of creating a port for only 20-30k?  Let's see, 17,500,000 or 17,530,000.....

The point of porting over the game for about 1 million $ would be offset by everything else and it would establish a rapport between rockstar and Nintendo's base that could be built upon.

Game devs seem to pass up good investments all the time

But I doubt they really care about GTA, lol.

it would easily be a million seller and as you said, establish the franchise. but i think this is due to all of their resources being poured on ps360 for this game. they may work on a next gen and pc version now. but it was a missed opportunity no releasing on wii u now.

A port of a $200m+ current gen game to a totally different console wouldn't cost just $1m...

the cost of the game is irrelevant to the cost of the port.

Anyone want to guess how much more it might have sold if it came out last year - without the next gen consoles coming soon?

I think it would have sold better last years. Probably another 10-20% by now.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Hmm yeah^

These people pulled it from an interview so here you go http://wiiudaily.com/2012/07/ubisoft-wii-u-games-cost-less-1-million-port/

Good. I had forgotten that interview. So they would need around 50-70k sales to break even? Let's say a GTA port would cost five to ten times more. Then it would need to sell 250-700k to break even. It could probably reach 500k, but is that really worth the effort? People often forget that porting a game isn't an automatic process, it's done by humans. So, if they aren't going to see large (or any) profits for their efforts, why would they do it?

the port would cost far less than what you are suggesting and it would sell far more than 500k.

I think it was Miyamoto that went on record in an interview and said the reason they don't bother buying up developers anymore is talent flight.

Everyone from the original Metroid Prime has already left Retro, for instance.
