I dont think it works that way. Take-Two market cap in 2012 was only 1.11 billion USD. If Nintendo bought the company at that time, Rockstar would have no choice but to release GTAV as a WiiU exclusive. But buying exclusivity from Take-Two would be an entirely different matter.

But why would they do that? They weren't going to make close to $1.11 billion from GTA V if it were Wii U exclusive.

They get a lot of valuble ip and have the potential to reach a market they haven't been able to reach before? With EA no longer providing sports games for WiiU, having 2K Sports in their corner would'nt hurt. Having huge western development resources sounds like a decent investment to me in the long term. Seriously. You dont think GTAV would drive hardware sales for Nintendo, or all the other Take-Two ip's?
