when i was in grad school i did research into organic LED displays and organic photovoltaics. this really is a dream come true for me and i promise, only the beginning of whats to come. it won't be too much longer until count chocula is beckoning you to eat his cereal from the aisle of the grocery store.

Why are you openning up boxes of cereals without buying them?

That is amazing!

not opening them.  the box itself would be a disposible screen.  it would be kind of like the harry potter style newspapers.  a picture of count chocula on the box except he's waving at you or whatever seducing you to buy his cereal.

Samsung continues to innovate. This time Samsung stuns the industry with the revelation of a curved-shaped OLED display smartphone.

Yeah " Innovate " , a Korean company never innovates anything, they work on government funds have no copyright fringment policy, which is why back in the days of 90's and early 00's when Samsung wasn't popular the word "Korean/Chinese made" means a product is conterfiet.

This video was shown back in 2007 , just for the record.

Here is another video.

Sony is the best Hardware company that no one gives credit for, only in their least innovative division do they get credit the Playstation division (sorry PS Fans but its the truth)

Want to know what Samsung is going to steal next? just look at the Sony prototypes and you will know

This one for example, I bet "The next big thing" in tv "innovation" is going to be this tech that was shown ages ago (not only by Sony but Sharp did it I think) , and people and media will ride on their dicks and praise the korean gods of Samsung for being innovative thinkers because its cool to hate on Apple because apple fanboys are Hipsters who pay extra for nothing and Samsung users are smart middle class people who know whats up and have sex with a prostitute with a discounted price because they are so cool.

Damn. That sounds awesome and too good to be true XD.

this is LCD but you get the idea.  the thing about OLED tech is it the materials used to create the light are the same materials already used as ink in magazines today.  that means, in theory, an OLED display could be only marginily more expensive to produce than printing a magaizine is today.  ..in theory.  regardless, silicon is expensive to purify and limited in supply and competes heavily with higher value computer products.  OLED displays should be order of magintudes easier to manufature once they get more experience with them.

@pulluspardus
Yeah tell me about it. Sony has been working on stuff like this for years. Yet, maybe they should have made it intoa phone by now. There is definitely some leadership problems over at Sony. They had a phone that could turn into a watch and flex and bend and all that. Where is it?

"now imagine the products you could design with this!*
...big EA logo appears...ugh...

pretty interesting though !

"Just imagine the new possibilities for packaging and marketing."

Not the most compelling argument for new technology I've heard. I think I'll go for the box of cereal that isn't charging me the cost of an OLED display with every box. I don't care how cheap they are, there's no way they're cheaper than cardboard, and they add no value once the novelty factor wears off.

The problem with a hypothetical future of ubiquitous displays is the same problem we have with public displays now: They can only tells us what they want to say, they can't tell us what we want to know. There's a crossover point in that Venn diagram, but the power of the internet and mobile revolutions is that they empower people to get the information they want, when they want it, rather than being subject to the information that another party wishes to broadcast.

@PeZuS

I'm actually too lazy to read your OP and the comments before mine, but what exactly is the point of bendable screens besides stretching (animated) pictures of boobies?
