Forums - Gaming - List of the 100 Best FPSs Ever - IGN

Terrible list. Influencing a genre doesn't magically change the game and make it better and that's what's the problem with all IGN games, but even most "best of lists." Take RPGs for example. In most best of lists, you'll see Dragon Warrior in the top 50 when it doesn't belong on the list at all, atleast when you compare that it's above many other games that are better RPGs, just didn't do anything influential for the genre.

This list has the first Unreal Tournament at #11, Unreal Tournament 2003 way back in the #70s or #80s, which is backwards, and where is Unreal Tournament 2004 and UT3? These two games being the pinnacle of the series. Best multiplayer shooters of all time.

I don't like the list that much. They make a weird arbitruary line on what is too many RPG elements to be a called a shooter, and then put Deus Ex, System Shock on it, which has more Role-Playing Elements than Fallout 3 and similarly craptastic shooting.

Have games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Halo Reach, Battlefield which by the majority considered better, and they considered better than Crysis 3, Far Cry 2, Rainbow 6: Vegas, bulletstorm at the time. And are somehow a lot lower. It seems sort of like they did top 20 or so and then just threw things in.

Personally I also think a lot of older shooters like say Goldeneye, F.E.A.R. hasn't aged well despite being important or revolutionary to the genre.

Cant argue with that top 10, though I still think CoD4 is the greatest of all time.

Easily for me.

The only FPS that has blown me away.

Have not played any Call of Duty yet. Is there anything interesting "single player wise" to try this one out?

The shine is in its multiplayer. I had never experienced anything like it back in the day.

The single player is still as good it gets in FPSs though, lots of epic set pieces and an intense story.

I agree only with first 2 places...as for the rest, lot of really weird choices.

Here's the full list. Sorry for the formatting issues.

Thank you so much for this.  Like hell I'm clicking through all those pages.

Anyway, Timesplitters 2 at #60; Timesplitters Future Perfect not in it at all.  I'm out.

God, these lists are so shit, they just make these "click for 100 different pages" for revenue, they don't care to make them sound. Not even worth looking at.

TimeSplitters 2 is way too low!
