Forums - Nintendo - Can you be a Nintendo fan, but not a Nintendo gamer?

I am sure people like Kowenicki, even if they did not enjoy Nintendo games, could respect them. They have sold popular systems for years. Even with the bad mistakes they make plenty of good decisions as well. With the bad that we got with the GC, they still dug their way out and made the Wii and DS. With the bad start of the 3DS, here we are now. You can respect them as a company I think ,even if you do not like playing their games any more.

Nintendo games are kind of exciting by themselves anyways. Just to see all the hoopla surrounding them and all the rumors that go with it. Despite some thinking of them as kiddie, it is still a lot of fun to read about Nintendo.

Pezus is learning this I think.

Most people think Nintendo is kiddie, not some people. Some people KNOW nintendo is not just for kids. Most cannot be blamed for thinking that though because children and families are Nintendos primary focal demographic. Problem with Nintendo is that the kids are growing up and the image is still the same rather than unified around keeping the gamers who grew up with them.

I don't really read about Nintendo, theres nothing exciting to really talk about rather than just to see what they create and play it. Theres no in depth storylines, no stars or actors, the gameplay is fairly simple. Its just simple fun really, nothing more, nothing less.

No. Being a fan of someone or something involves consuming their media/engaging in an activity. If someone claimed to be a football fan and has never seen a football game, they would be a poser. Similarly, you can't say "I'm a Pink Floyd fan" if you've never heard a Pink Floyd fan, nor be a Walking Dead fan without having ever seen an epidode of the show. You can like Nintendo if you don't play their games, but being a fan is a more specific thing.

Simple gameplay?  Pokemon is an incredibly deep game that can be discussed endlessly and played at a very high level.  Wonderful 101 is another example of a rich game with tons of depth to its gameplay.  Kid Icarus Uprising, Smash Bros, Fire Emblem Awakening, Pokemon Conquest, and so on so forth.  Xenoblade, and presumably X, has a great story, as does Fire Emblem Awakening.  Same for Last Story.  It might not a super serious end of the world story but Kid Icarus Uprising and Mario and Luigi have wonderfully fun stories with cleverness to spare.  Even something like Lego City, a loving parody of action movies, has a really fun story to it.  Nintendo makes lots of games with depth in gameplay and story.

Oh, and when kids grow up, there are more kids.  Until the radiation makes us all sterile, they're not running out.

"Most people" do not think Nintendo is "kiddie". Only people who have severe maturity, security, and self-identity issues. People who relate violent, dark and extreme types of games as "hardcore", and relate that to the image they identify with as a "gamer". No self-respecting adult looks at something that isn't explicitly dark/violent and says "that's for kids, I won't touch it". That's the same kind of crowd who claims they're "too old for cartoons", and that kind of nonsense. If you think that a cartoony game like a Mario or a Kirby, etc., is "kiddie" and thus you can't be caught dead playing it (because what would your FRIENDS think?), you have far bigger issues you need to deal with as a person.

So no, I don't buy that "most people" feel that way at all. Only the self-identifying "hardcore gamer" crowd, who thankfully are NOT most people.

I implore you to do a study of non-gamers as to their perception of Nintendo. The reason mature games are called mature is because they involve themes, acts and language children should not involve themselves in.

Monoliths style is not to be confused with Nintendos even if Nintendo just purchased them. They made their impact on the gaming world before Nintendo purchased them. Nintendo involves themselves in gaming children can enjoy and Monolith definitely needed a financial backer because Japan is going through some issues. Its definitely one of the companies Nintendo can afford to buy because Nintendo is a very thrifty company. Great story I am sure for Xenoblade Chronicles. The Last Story was published by Nintendo but so was Lost Odyssey on the Xbox..same maker. A reflection of Nintendo is in what Nintendo makes themselves. Maybe sooner or later monolith will meld its style with Nintendo. Fire Emblem is a great marker of a Nintendo RPG. It's old school and sticks to the tradition of its roots on the 3DS.

You are a horribly biased person

What do you call a person who plays any game on any brand then?

A whore.

Or open-minded, whichever best suits the situation.

I'm gonna go with that.
