I think it would be better for Nintendo to concentrate their time in improving their range First Party titles than bending over backwards to Third Party Developer like Sony/Microsoft have always done. A lot of Third party publishers will in all like hood have no choice but to support the Wii U in future to cover the cost of ever increasing gaming budgets and to leave their option open in case of their existing platforms choices failing.
While Third Party games selling only a few several thousand copies on the Wii U may seem not be worth it. But it doesn't cost that much to do a basic port compared to the cost of the actual game development. If released in the same time period as other console versions there would be little extra cost incured in advertising as you will just use existing payed advertising.
Using Ubisoft $ 1.3 million porting Wii U cost figure and the profit to publisher figure of $27 on each game sold using the Anatomy of a $60 video game piechart. You only talking about only selling 48,148 copies at full price to just break even on Wii U title. Which would be an easy figure for any decent Third party game to sell on the Wii U console and make a healhty profit compared to the intial investment required.
