i think nokia's bigger problem wasn't focussing on windows smartphones, it was not focussing on smartphones at all when it counted and believing the normal mobile phones would still be the big deal in the next years.

it is also not only important how many phones you sell but how much you make with it.  weren't they already unprofitable with this business or at least on the fall even with great sales numbers? selling many phones for a loss isn't better as selling less phones for a loss.

The plans for the nokia takeover started in mid. 2009.

In spring 2009 microsoft has started to produce their own smartphone devices.

within 3-4 month after start KIN was abandoned.At that time i wondered the hell why.They have kept running the 360 though there was the extremly expensive rrod desaster but they dropped their other ambitious project after 1/4 year???.You don't waste huge sums of money into R&D (and it is very expensive when you have to start from the core)and than bury the entire project within weaks after release.

Than one of the strangest miracles or let's say most stupid things in history of economics happened.
Those guys at Nokia went crazy and decided to (save is the wrong word as they were far away from being saved) to make Nokia more profitable by making the man of the most incompetent mobile devision in history(ms mobile) the boss.
Sthephen Elop had the best possibilities to make ms mobile a success.Tons of money,an OS monopol(interconnecting windows vista/7 with mobile phones in an intelligent way would have made ms a global player in mobile business)-he ruined everything.I wouldn't let this guy come close to any mobile because he'd have ruined it within seconds,-what did Nokia?They made him the boss(and they installed a second guy from ms at a top position as i remember)
This is as ridiculous as making GW Bush President of the USA.

The first thing Elop has done was undermining Nokias image and crushing Nokia Stock/Shares with his infamous "burning plattform" speech.Of course MS could not buy Nokia at that time as it would have been too obvious,but the damage was already done.
The second thing was:abandoning Symbian(NSA says thank you-mission accomplished-no more spyfree os on a huge scale)No Nokia was stuck with MS 100%.No alternatives possible but the one OS that has failed for years.
The third thing was:stealth take over.No chance for competitors.

Motorola in its best time was a glimpse of a shit compared to nokia in its worst times.
Google paid for motorola 13 billion dollars(a few years back) ms paid ca 7-7.5 mio dollar for Nokia.I'd say that a deal.
They got a mercedes for half the price of a ford .

And Nokia is still king in so called 2-3rd world countries in the low end market.Having the brand and some loyalty and a possibility of 95% that even in those countries usual mobiles will be replaced in huge numbers by cheap smartphones in the next there is a huge market waiting.


There was an article of a microsoft employee this year when the guy said"Microsoft asked Sony to be friends in the console market,but Sony refused.That's why we made the xbox(=0 interesst in gaming)"
Sony knew if they acceppt being "Friend" with microsoft ,microsoft would take ovef their gaming devision.That's what they are doing for decades.That's why they did not acceppt the offer.Being Microsofts Friend is just like being a country that is threatened by the USA with freedom and democracy.

The question is not wether Elop is a troll or not,but why Nokias leaders took the most useless person in terms of mobile to be the boss.
I don't think they are all crazy,but i think they are corruppt 100%.

Wanna proof that Elop is a troll?Just wait and see how much money he will get with his new contract and how close he will get to the top.
I'm pretty sure he will improve his status quo and his income 3-5x. in the next 2-3 years.

Nokia would have went down anyway, but I still feel MS tricked them a bit and got their mobile tech and licenses for a bargain.

I believe MS paid for the tech and tech rights, not the ability for hardware manufactoring in the long run. Now what we will see is Nokia employees get fired, and in a couple of years Windows Phones will be terminated simply because they can't compete with Google and Apple.

Now sadly both Scandinavian mobile phone makers are gone.

One more reason to hate MS and ignore Xflop One.

Meego was the best os for mobile ever created. It was written in C++ so it was much faster than this java crap android. Also it was eons ahead with multitasking than other systems.

Maemo was awesome in N900, still the only phone with true multitasking.

the point isnt just if Meego was better than andriod/iOS/Windows. it was the fact that when elop decided for nokia to go with windows it closed the door on Nokia using any andriod device. Andriod proved to be the winning formula as it shows with samsung, HTC, LG, ZTE, sony and huawei all of which sold more andriod phones than Windows 8 phones. Windows phone has been a gigantic failure, if Nokia would have went with andriod they would have been so much better off
