Forums - General - Goodbye Nokia! Mission accomplished Elop, you have destroyed Nokia and return back to Microsoft (fastest collapse of a industry market leader in the history of mankind)

This chart is probably accurate. But, that doesn't mean it represents the facts. You can set up a chart to show whatever point you want. If you want, you can make a chart that portrays the facts any way you want. If you read the industry articles related to Elop, you will find that most everyone thinks that he saved Nokia from certain collapse. The guy came on board the Titanic and sold off an asset to M$ for 8.5 Billion that was worth about $500 million when he took over. Looks like a good deal to Nokia's shareholders to me.

What is left of Nokia?

Nokia was in a bad place when he took over anyway. Wasn't much that could have been done.

I agree Nokia was in a bad position, but Apple and Samsung eating Nokia marketshare weren't half as destructive as Elop's switch to windows mobile.

You really have no clue what you're talking about, stop copy pasting what other people are posting.

There are plenty of actually informed posts in that GAF thread which proves the opposite of what you're saying.

This thread is fucking hilarious. Turkish, you have no concept of business and market trends. Just think back to 2011. Samsung was about to release its low end androids that have been killing Nokias low end for a few years now.

In terms of business it made 100% perfect sense to go with windows phone, even over android. Here is why:

Windows phone requires very little R&D in terms of investment in the platform. Android requires its own dev cost and Symbian even more so.

You know what was nokia's yearly R&D cost for supporting symbian? $10.4 billion dollars
You know what was nokias R&D cost supporting windows phone? $2.4 billion

Smartphones needed to sell to make back 10.4 billion dollars? - 50 million phones (nokias smartphone price was around $200 per phone for the last few years)

Smartphones needed to sell to make Windows phone profitable? - 12 million phones

+ 500 million cash infusion every quarter.

So are you gonna copy paste what those other people are posting to disprove me or are you gonna thread whine more? How ironic that you accuse me of copy pasting when you bring up other people's post that supposedly disprove me. Did Nokia sales not fall of a cliff after the transition to windows mobile? YES. Elop was shitting on his own products(Burning Platform memo) just before the transition. Was Nokia already hurting before Elops coup? YES, thanks to the explosion in  Apple and Samsung phone sales. What exactly is it that you dont understand?

Damn, you must be blind not to see how he actually saved Nokia.

... this is the chart which was important prior to 2011

Nokia was going downhill.. especially with their smartphone.. the Nokia N97 went up against the iPhone.. their future was very bleak ..

people shouldn't let silly things like MS hate overlooking the simple facts..

To be fair,  He probably didn't pay attention to this until like a couple days ago.

Hell, he didn't even get the OP right, since Nokia isn't being sold.  Just it's handset buisness.  Nokia is actually keeping all it's profitable pieces.

There is a reason why nobody in the investment buisness believes that conspiracy theory.  Hell, if anything the leading trend of negativity on microsoft is... "Why is microsoft paying money for something they already have locked up, they're just basically buying cashflow."

Nokia's big problem was that they decided to focus on non-smartphones RIGHT before the Iphone released... basically they focused on smartphones before they got big, and then stoppd focusing on them, riiiiiight before they got huge.

Also, Elop became CEO in SEPTEMBER 2010.  So you know the whole "Downward sales/unprofitable all of a sudden" trend actually LED elop, even in your graphs.   Which for some reason places the memo at the start of 2010... and just in general... isn't accurate.

So whoever even made that graph has their facts wrong.

They're Map buisness that is used in the majority of cellphones and cars and  They're highly profitable buisness networks and services company.

As an example, had this sale happened last financial quarter, instead of having a profit margin of 4%.  Nokia would of had a profit margin of 12%.

My Nokia stocks went up $5000 over night. Thanks M$!!!!

That^^

Seriously this is another Microsoft hate post from Turkish... He has not clue of what is going on. Microsoft actually SAVED Nokia and it was kind of expected they would eventually aquired them.

It is a good news for both MS and Nokia and I hope Microsoft is going to capitalize on that aquisition.

I thought the rise of the blackberry killed Nokia as well as the iphone? I had no idea a former MS employee became Nokia CEO.

it was very obvious he was a trojan horse. droping memo (which had a chance at the time) and magically deciding to go with windows phone instead of andriod?

Ok... here's the thing... and I don't say this lightly.  You don't know what your talking about. Memo isn't a software or a platform or annything.

The Memo referred to in the OP was an internal Memo, as in a document sent to other people.   It was talking about how their current plan was flawed and leading to them losing market share.
