Forums - Microsoft Discussion - BREAKING: Microsoft to purchase Nokia’s devices & services business, license patents & mapping services for €5.44 billion in cash.

Great move for M$. Here's hoping it doesn't scare off other vendors from pursuing the windows phone devices.

Last nokia i actually liked was a 3210, nothing of value has been lost.

Over here in Japan, Xperia A, SGS4, iPhone 5 and Eluga X are the mobile kings.

Thats that then.  Japan dont like them so they may aswell give up.  If you dont think any of the Lumia's are good devices then I'd suggest you dont want to.

Pretty much most services providers here dont offer windows mobile based phones or tablets with contracts, in contrast you can get a sgs4, iphone 5, latest xperia or eluga free with the contract, for the same price as a sim-only contract under the same terms, even if i wanted to get one i couldnt, but i dont, because i spent long enough on winmo, symbian and ios to know that i much prefer android.

My last nokia was an N900 running Maemo 5, havent looked back since - winmo is not something that makes me want to, either.

ooh boy this should send nok skyrocketing in the stocks. Rubs palms together

Err...i don't think you understand this deal.

Microsoft isn't buying Nokia. They are buying device and services part of Nokia. Microsoft stock will soar while Nokia will be lucky to remain flat.

Nokia is going to be a Maps, and network technologies company moving forward.  No more phones for them.

I refer you to the first two sentences of my previous post.

Sorry, last i checked all countries where something is being sold are significant in the grand scheme of things - i dont eject a certain country because it doesnt sit well with my agenda like some people.

But heres the thing you miss - Docomo, Softbank and AU operate in most of asia, Asia, i should point out, has three times the number of mobile subscribers as the US.

Good. Now Nokia will be fully committed to Windows OS.
Now MS should just buy Platinum Games and the struggling Sega to make my dream console library come true.

You really think Microsoft is gonna let Platinum make the crazy games they are making now?  I know this has been said to death, but just look at rare.  Microsoft focuses on games that will sell in the west, completely different mentality than Platinum, would be a terrible combo.

Vanquish,Bayonetta,MG:Rising, W101, etc... those guys are bleeding talent and they just need guidance I mean $$$.

And that would put MS closer to Japanese market.

Yeah...Not sure if the Japanese gamers are gonna go anywhere near the Xbox One this time.

You are out of date.  Marketshare doubling in Europe in the last 12 months to 8.3% isnt growing?  This is now just under half of iOS marketshare and It will strongly compete with iOS soon enough. In emerging markets, especially South America, it is growing even quicker.

Europe:

Android - 45.41%

iOS - 38.99%

Windows - 2.58%

Either you are grossly misinformed or you are flat out lying.

With your track record of blind devotion to a certain company I think I know which one it is

sorry but a smiley doesnt stop that being an insult....  also... buy a mirror.

Those 5 countries are probably over 75% of the smartphone market,  the rest will follow soon.

whatever.... your 2.5% was way off.

Probably and whatever? Well I can't argue with that now can I?

Oh and I have no bias. I buy what I like no matter who makes it. I still think the 360 was the best console this gen. I own all last gen consoles and both of this gens handhelds.

It's hard to argue with people who just defend companies because it's their "team"

Here's a wake-up call for you.....

All companies fuck up every now and then. Google, Apple, Sony, Nintendo, and yes even your beloved Microsoft have all made shitty products.

In the words of what surely must have been one of your heroes...... Deal with it.

MS did this because no one else wanted to put Windows on their phones.
Now they can really drive their mobile business into the ground.

"In Europe especially Windows Phone has seen promising growth, posting its highest ever market share of 8.3 per cent across the five major European markets – the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain."

Out of curiosity, maybe i've been out of the loop, but since when does UK, Germany, France, Italy + Spain = Europe? I am pretty sure you are omitting a lot of countries in Europe to make your point, which in the end is still a fallacy since it does not own 8.3% of the full European market like your post claimed.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will join Microsoft and lead an "expanded devices team." Julie Larson-Green -- Microsoft's current overseer for Devices and Studio Engineering, which encompasses all hardware, including Xbox -- will continue to lead the division until the acquisition is completed, after which she will join Elop's new team. Elop will lead the new division, including Xbox, at that time.
