Do you think Sony should re-design the Vita?

the main reason the Vita is doing horribly at the moment is because it doesn't have a lot of small/big games, unlike it's competitor, the 3DS.

but besides that, i think a really big issue with the Vita is the hardware itself.

like, the system itself was expensive before the Gamescom price cut, but still, it's more expensive than it's competitor, and those memory cards make things worse.

so here's my take on that hardware issue. the Vita needs a re-design that fixes this and more issues, at the top of my head, these are things than need to be added in a re-design:

1.support SD/Micro SD Cards. this is one of my biggest gripes with the Vita, those memory cards are terribly expensive, even after the price cut. i honestly don't know why Sony didn't just do this from the beginning, SD Cards are so damn cheap!

2.ATLEAST 2 GBs of INTERNAL memory, would it kill Sony to do this? adding atleast 2 GBs of memory alone would solve a lot of the complaints against this system.

3.PHYSICAL analog triggers, the back touchpad , IMO, is a horrible idea. i mean seriously, for games that would need analog triggers you need to change the way you're holding it which makes holding it pretty damn uncomfortable, and they can't put digital triggers now, some currently released games would not work correctly.

that's what i can think of for now, what do you guys think, does it need a re-design, and if so, what other changes do you want?

It doesn't need a re-design, just those AAA titles, its not selling cuz its expensive, making another expensive model wont help. They wont release one anytime this year, they have the price cut. Their main focus is PS4

Yeah, because that worked so well for the PSP Go.

What the Vita needs to do is stop catering to hardened hardcore gamers. Seriously. Stop making home console type games for it. Well, correction. They don't need to stop that. They need to start making and advertising more games that appeal to the mass market FIRST. No real average person goes "Oh gee, you know what I really want to play on the go? Killzone." Sure, there's a niche market there, but what they really need to do is make games like that stupid an totally copied Sony dogs game. Or LBP. Make games that make sense on a hand held FIRST. Then spew out the hardcore crap people with just buy on their PS4 later.

Seriously. Release a Spyro exclusive game under the "Skylanders" brand. Make a Sly Cooper for the thing. Make a Crash Bandicoot game for it. Minecraft is a good start. Maybe a music rhythm game. Maybe a sim. There's a common thread amongst this, right. MARKET IT TO KIDS AND CASUALS!!! Seriously. Stop trying to cater a handheld to jaded gamers who will never care about it. Make games that cater to kids and casuals FIRST. Then when it's selling well, you can pad the library with hardcore edgy titles that the 1m people who buy handhelds for that crap will enjoy. And what ever that killer app is, they need to advertise the hell out of it.

But they won't do that. They'll continue to think that Killzone or Uncharted will sell it. Only god knows why. That's why it will fail. People think Nintendo's out of touch? At least they know their audience. I don't want the Vita to fail, but seriously it has no chance. Especially not with the new 2DS now releasing at $70 less on the same day as the second most powerful video game franchise of all time.

I have to disagree. It does have lots of small games and a modest ammount of big games. Not much in the way of exclusives though.

I think a redesign would help, but unlike the 3DS i think it could use a Vita lite. A slightly smaller model. It has to be financially viable though, because Sony cant afford losses.

Ok.

1. Removal of back touch pad.
2. Introduction of L1/L2 and R1/R2 via smart placement.
3. Slimmer version.

The original model is flawless to be honest, Sony is in no need to a re-designed one.
3DS needed to, because the first model was just useless to me, the 3D isn't correctly functional due to small screens. The XL changed a lot.

You can't do that.  Some games would become completely unplayable because you have to use your fingers to press things frome the background to the foreground.

There's already no room to put any 2nd shoulder buttons.  They'd be the easiest thing to break on the console.

The only thing they should redesign is the interior of the console.  They shouldn't just force everyone to use a smaller screen.  Look at the DSXL.  When that thing came out, they didn't force everyone to use the bigger console.

Look at best selling game in psp and vita they are home console type.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

All the Vita needed was games. What is desperately needs now is for retailers to not give up on it.
