Forums - Sony - Sony Factories 'Running Flat Out' To Meet PS4 Demand

Sony’s factories are “going to be running flat out” to manufacture enough PlayStation 4 hardware to meet demand, Sony Europe boss Jim Ryan has said.

Speaking to EDGE about the demand for the console, Ryan said, “Factories are going to be running flat out the way demand is looking.

“There’s an awful lot of core gamers out there now and we will be selling to them certainly in this part of the world.”

Sony has already secured over one million pre-orders for PS4 – a figure it could struggle to fulfil for launch day.

The platform holder has previously notified customers that any orders placed after August 5 may not be delivered in time for launch day, but additional stock may become available as it finalises allocation.

Mainly Flextronics factories actually :) But yah that's good to hear; with their huge pre-orders success they will need to produce a lot of them!

Great we can know they are working 20 hours a day for minimal wage and all human rights laws are probably being ignored.

The more you think!!!

Now i'm feeling kind of bad for pre-ordering one, those workers in the factory's are probably working overtime on already very long day's and possibly without any extra pay...

They weren't always working flat out? Id be surprised if any system launches without manufacture being at max.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Disgruntled factory workers are going to spit in our consoles! No worry though, I have a back up plan to avoid sabotaged launch consoles. Being too broke :(

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

If Sony can't guarantee consoles for all their 1m pre-orderers . Why are people thinking Sony will have 4/5 million units this holiday ?

UK chief Fergal Gara: 21/08/2013

He added: "The one comment I'll make about the pre-order number is first of all, it's greater than a million, and secondly, the UK represents a very healthy slug of that. We're undeniably seeing a sea change.

"I'm very very pleased with it, so we will be looking at sell outs in areas. We're doing everything we can to secure every last unit ... so we an do out very best to meet the demand as it stands for day one and clearly chasing thereafter.

"It's a little bit of a problem, but it's good problem to have."

"We're really confident in our plan, it has taken shape very very nicely right since the initial announcement.

Gara also dismissed reports that Sony is artificially creating shortages of the PS4, but couldn't confirm if retailers would have stock to fill shelves are launch.

"There's nothing sinister or overly clever about it, and it certainly isn't a PR stunt. It's a real high demand situation and helping retail to manage that responsibly," he explained.

I guess having sell out demand is better than having average demand! Sony appears to be confident and aware about the situation, it reads like Sony will do their best meet demand day one so the pre-orders up to that point should be fulfilled which should include the 1 million odd pre-order up to now? Beyond that it may be that there could be delays in filling shelves in stores maybe? I guess they did not expect such demand hence the factories are 'running flat out'.

I would like to know how the X1 pre-orders are doing in the UK, according to Fergal Gara the UK is doing great in PS4 pre-orders.
