I'm absolutely sick and tired of this politcal correctness BS. One instance I'd like to cite happen about three months ago, I'm a big basketball fan (Go Lakers), and when I watched Roy Hibbert's press conference live (here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5dDv7VrKTM), I thought nothing much of it. To me, it was a player that has felt like his team and himself were being underappreciated by the press, which they were. He also had some adrenaline running in him, as he just had a whale of a game and pushed the Heat to a game 7.

So he made a joke. Said something like, "I let LeBron stretch me out...no homo". Immediately after, the NBA fines him 75K for using a "homophobic slur" (no homo is apparently now on the same level as fag*ot), and sports media outlets such as ESPN posts "Hibbert fined for homophobic slur in interview".  Soon, Hibbert was forced to apologize for the "homophobic slur", but no one thought anything of his use of "y'all mf's don't watch us play" line. Strange double standard.

I close with a question- do you believe political correctness is good for society? Obviously, I don't believe it's good for society. I look forward to seeing some discussion on a forum like this. I know this has little to do with gaming, but there's a reason why there's an off-topic section on this site.

It's disgusting and I hate it. It's a cheap, holier-than-thou attitude displayed by people who in reality are intolerant and controlling, and who have small hearts and selfish personalities.

This. It comes off as being very pretentious and fake, and absolutely ruins comedy. For example, when Dave Chapelle said a few years back "Homosexuals...that ain't right", the entire theater bursted out laughing. Needless to say, the reaction today would be vastly different. I don't think you have to call "policemen" officers, "businessmen" entrepreneurs, "black people" African Americans, and "mankind" humankind in order to be understanding of others. Those token names don't add anything to society other than the pretentiousness that a person brings upon others by correcting those that use some "loose" terms.

It does help.

People get used to acting like they are supposed to there will be less hate.

This is the intent, a noble one no doubt. I think it tends to bring out the worst in others, as it gives people another reason to rebel against society. Take 4chan for example, full of anti-social people and it's super popular. If people in society weren't so pretentious, I'm sure more individuals would appreciate society and be less rebellious.

Politically correct means you said or did the right thing to score points politically for yourself. When you deal with groups that have pull, you have to learn the right and wrong things to say, and adjust. Individuals who scream about political correctness are usually individuals out of the political mainstream, who want to end up holding views that are going to put them in pariah status, and they whine about it. Such individuals will tend to be conservative actually, and fail to see where society is heading, and hate the fact their views get them blacklisted by individuals who feel threatened and have enough pull to have an impact. Such individuals complaining will wish that money could counter it, and they could buy their way out, but they can't.

I dont have much to say on the topic, but Roy Hibbert was a beast in the playoffs XD He proved that he is one of the best, if not the best defensive men in the game. The Great Wall of Hibbert.

But for your answer, he is a celebrity and a hero to many young people. He gets paid a lot of money and they expect you to be professional on and off the court. No it may not have been fair and personally I dont agree with it but he will need to learn to not make such jokes. Even though we know it is only a joke it is still a professional sport. When you are professional you are expected to act professional. And unfortunately for him, being on camera is a part of his job.

As I was saying:

No political correctness only keeps racism and the like alive. Being blunt about things and then laughing about it over a beer is the only way we'll end racism and discrimination.

I have a dream, where a white guy and a black guy can sit and share funny jokes about the other's race over a few beers.

Man political correctness is so out of control in australia.

All the nursery rymes i.e no more BLACK sheep.

fairy penguins renamed to little penguins.

OH man I miss the good old days when you could say stuff like:

"I was out at night watching those gay ferry penguins on the shore line collecting faggots to build a nest."

and no one would blink an eye and know what you meant.

Yes, for the most part it is a good thing. To dehumanize or marginalize others isn't a good thing. It is often misunderstood though and misused.

This isn't people sitting together and having a beer. This is a media event.

In my experience usually the people that complain are the ones that are upset they can not oppress others anymore. Like they guy upset he can't beat and rape is wife because she is not longer 'property' but a 'human being.'

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
