No, it wasn't. It was on par with the current gen but slightly better not "dramatically better". Next gen blows the Wii U's graphics away. When a CNN female anchor asked Reggie about the power of the next gen consoles he brushed the question off and tried to emphasize the graphics of the Wii U which is old and tired tech at this point. Now when they are far behind in graphics yet again Reggie wants to say graphics don't matter. He was caught by the media and people on Youtube. What he said was 100% pure hypocrisy.

I stand by what I said before. Graphics mean nothing these days. The leap isn't nearly as noticeable, neither is the comparison with Wii U and PS4/Xbox1. What it comes down to for every system is games, plain and simple.

Graphics mean nothing these days, which is exactly why Epic told Nintendo to use UE3 for the Wii U, correct? The power and graphics  requirements have shifted and Sony and Microsoft have delivered specs so next gen games can finally be created, which the Wii U cannot handle. If they didn't need it to differentiate the games from this generation they wouldn't have asked. Multiplayer on a next gen level will not be available to Nintendo and neither will expansive games that get past 1GB. basically after the first year and a half of life the next gen consoles will have left Nintendo in the dust in RAM requirement alone. Western developers are the ones to ask about next generation tech specs, not Japanese third party.

Does it enhance gameplay in anyway like it did back then? SNES to 64 changed the way games were played, but the PS3 and PS4 doesn't do that nearly has much. People aren't just going to buy a new system for "enhanced visuals". Sure, there are the tech geeks that want them, but new gameplay experiences are what people want. PS2 was weaker than the GC and look how that turned out.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

I think Nintendo needs to get a bit of a reality check. Sure pretty visuals aren't enough, but that doesn't mean they have to be set aside and only focus on gameplay.

While his delivery was poor, the sentiment that great graphics aren't enough is one I can definitely get behind. I've never been able to enjoy a game purely for its visuals. In fact, I've hated tons of graphically impressive games.

Consumers seem to agree; the Atari 2600, NES, Gameboy, PS2, DS, and Wii, all won their respective console wars despite being graphically weaker than their competition.

While I do agree with Reggie that graphics aren't everything. I think he's being a little hypocritical considering the Wii U isn't even close to a success. The same franchises all the time don't = success either.

I'm guessing there are about 3 million people whom buy console hardware because its sexy and new. After that its all about the experience and the games.

We'll see if the Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario combo will work this holiday. Once again.

Which one has better graphics: the 3DS or the PS Vita?

Which one sells better than the other: the 3DS or the PS Vita?

Captain Obvious strikes again.

I wonder what this says about his product. Is it pretty pictures only?

I like to think of Reggie, with his statement, arguing for the case of the return of the Vectrex :

I'll guarantee you that.........past the first year the Wii U will get left in the dust because Nintendo didn't put their thinking cap on. There are many games within the first two years that will come out that the Wii U will not properly be able to handle on the multiplat end. This is what will desparate the Wii U gen from the Xbone and PS4 generation. There will still be a divide even though the gap was bigger between the Wii, PS3 and 360. They keep creating divides between the third parties and themselves. Sony and MS pushed the graphical boundaries of what was expected to be a bridge generation. Its the gen after next that will be the leap in graphics.

It's a shame that they didn't developed a new Zelda game instead of just a HD remake.

They ARE working on a new Zelda. They're just doing Wind Waker HD as a sort of side-project in the meantime. Kind of like how Game Freak made Harmoknight during the development of Pokemon X/Y.

Yes, I know that. My point is that they should have it ready in 2014 (the best would be 2013). Wii U is struggling and they need their big guns now. In 2014 or 2015, PS4 or One could just surpass it and then the battle will be lost.

True. Right now 2nd half of 2014 needs to be nothing short of stellar for WiiU. A new kickass, mindblowing LoZ game this fall needs to happen. Xenogears 2 this fall needs to happen, and it HAS to be a masterpiece like the original Xenogears and Xenoblade. Ofcource, they'll need alot more than that, even. We'll see.
