That is just garbage. Kinect is around 25 million in sales, MS have the knowledge, experience and resources to back that up and sell Kinect 2 just as well.

Its going to make my entertainment watching even more enjoyable than kinect 1 did. I cant wait. when the kinect 2 gets released for pc, I will get it for that too. The closest thing to kinect right now are tvs with voice(which only work for your tv, not all the entertainment apps that xbox has, nor my cable box, and cost a lot more). I would hope some company could compete with MS in this area so the xbox one would be cheaper, but no has stepped up to the plate yet.

Alright, fair enough. This is a market for Kinect, but you have to at least admit that Kinect was not handled well as far as its implementation with games. For all the install base they grabbed, they really did not do much with device it self. Albeit, things like controlling the dashboard and commands on different games are cool, they aren't revolutionizing anything anytime soon.

It is laughable people say Kinect makes the entertainment expereince vastly better. Voice is more of a hindrance and an annoyance to me, I know many cannot stand voice activated anything. it is a gimmick nothing more. Same thing with gaming. When I am sitting home watching a show, how does kinect enhance anything? It doesn't.

 

Ms is betting too much on it and are going to lose.

Kinect is not just motion, its motion and voice. Kinect is the next step in interfaces. I didn't get it for games. I got it for media use, and it has revolutionized it. Phones are using more and more voice control, some are even adding motion control too. Gesture interface is very similar to touch(which I honestly dont use, as I dont like touch interfaces etheir), which everyone is getting more adapted to since smart phones and tablets use it. Have you had the pleasure of using a kinect to watch media? With kinect 2 basically removing my need for 3-4 remotes i use on a daily basis I cant help but be excited. I dont know if you have heard of the open living room kitchen concept, but if you have and like to cook and watch tv, or do things around the house and watch tv, or simply be freed from your remote, kinect is a must.


Yes lets add a 100 dollar kiect to use instead of out remote or voice commands..............Only proves my point.  Voice is not always accurate and worse then GASP, having to push a button. Gimmick is a gimmick.

 

You don't even need Kinect for voice.


bahaha you really have no clue. a descent universal remote is at least a 100 and that's the very low end of it. and it is still a remote. so i'd throw 200 at the kinect 2 just if it would only improve on noise cancellation because this is the only real issue I have with it. You'd be in my close circle I would wager a bet over a long time that voice control will become standard for most things that needs button pressing. I know me and my familly will make the switch as it comes more and more available.

even wifey the other day was trying to talk the TV just to realize it wasn't the XB on, this is proof enough for me that it ain't a gimmick, cause if there is something she is not it's a tech fanatic and usually makes fun of me. the 68 year old dad has been using voice command on his car GPS ever since it has been an option on the cars he buys, and I can't wait the day I can set up my oven by voice while telling my house AI to play some jazz on the Hi-Fi system and all that good stuff.

but yeah sure it's a gimmick, I'd invite you in my tech paradise.

The Xbox was created to be as similar to the Playstation as possible in order to compete for the newly created market Sony created. Technically where it matters the consoles are at parity (hence why Japan does not really care for the Xbox), it just depends on your cup of tea in games. If you like multiplatform games and can afford to shell out money for the consoles its really an incremental battle that comes down to price, graphics and games. 


yet what makes me want an XB is neither price nor graphics nor games. it's multimedia integration going further than XB360 does already, MP and XBL improving in quality with more servers and more services/apps, and kinect getting better. well games obviously but that's not the principal element for me I have plenty yet to finish on 360 so I could wait for price drop if it was for games.

if it was the other generic parts of it you speak about I would go for PS4 and since having a Sony product is out of the question I would just go back to PC gaming.

no it wasn't  WMC extender makes XB360 the best media box for the living room at that price hands down.... but yeah you are right it's like voice command is a gimmick nobody will care about in a few years ;)

my last sentence, well don't worry beside the PS it's not like Sony has no alternative in terms of hardware, actually if you really look for quality at the right price you can always find it somewhwere else than there product line... except their professional video/camera line and that doesn't really concern me.....

A decent universal remote is 100 dollars????? LMAO, I stopped reading as soon as I saw that. You can get them here for 10 bucvks, and all cable boxes and TV's come with remotes anyway.

Yeah, thats my point, Americans make incremental decisions. The Japanese look at the total package and if it doesn't have its own relative style and process its no better than the home brand and can be ignored.

Why does everyone forget that the PSEye is optional with the Move? The Xbox and Playstation have been at parity in offerings since the Xbox was created. They have a tug of war over services and peripherals because MS is going after the same crowd Sony commanded.

 


The Kinect and Move were created to combat the Wii? Yes to the Kinect, for sure. The Eyetoy existed two years before the Wii ever came out, so technically Sony wasn't copying Nintendo, but rather upgrading their product for the next generation. Microsoft took Sonys seconds when they bought Primesense, whom Sony had turned down because they had no answer for tracking 1:1 in a 3D realm without making your games seem like a simple minigame. Sony had been developing the Move since 2004, but the Wii helped influence their industrial design decisions for the secondary camera tracked peripheral. The vid doc is up on Youtube. 

No one saw the eyetoy and said hey, we need to be able to compete with that or we are losing a ton of potential customers.  On the other hand nintendo risked their entire console's success with their motion controls and because they succeeded sony and microsoft had to at least try to compete with the wii. Things are prototyped all the time without ever seeing release. Imagine if the wii ended up being a huge failure and showed that no one wanted motion control gaming. Guess what device would have forever stayed a prototype. The wii was revolutionary, and the move just seems like a cash in considering how abbysmal support has been for the platform. It seems like Sony just wanted to sell a bunch of prepherials at a profit and forget that the device ever existed. It doesn't matter who started developing what first. It matters who took the big risk and was successful with the product first.

As for your comment about Microsoft taking seconds. Judging by the success of the kinect and the current irrelevancy of the move, it just sounds like Sony made a terrible decision when they decided to turn down Primesense. They basically allowed the xbox 360 to have a second life and stay relevent for an extra 3 to 4 years when they could have ended up easily winning the generation had they incorperated and advertised the kinect into the playstation 3 platform as well as microsoft did so with the 360. Turning a design down that ends up being successful is just bad news for the company that turned it down.

 

Your problem with the Move or the Eyetoy is that of a marketing issue. The forerunner tech for the Kinect was the Eyetoy. If Sony would've said yes to Primesense there would be no Kinect.

Secondly, to bolster the point about bad marketing. Tell me the last time last gen that you saw PS2's with eyeboys with special areas in a Best Buy or large department? I've never seen it. When the Kinect came out Microsoft had it at Macy's. It wasn't really even on the news or anything about Sony just makes the tech and provides the possibilities but doesn't market it. Know where I found the Eyetoy last gen? On the bottom shelf in a Best Buy after I had played it at a friends house. Thats the perfect marketing strategy. Kinect tech is powerful as a camera but for gaming its stuck in minigame hell because of its finite 3D realm awareness. Its fun for simple things though, I'm sure.

Anyone who spends 100 on a  remote is a few cans short of a six pack.. Name 1 thing a 100 dollar remote can do a 10 dollar one cannot? It is just a remote LMAO.  I don't even see 100 dollar remotes at any electronics store here..anywhere. Someone is lying to try to make an argument. How does 1 00 dollar remote ENHANCE the experience like a gaming mouse would? Please explain?

 

Go play with your voice commands I guess, itys worth 100 dolars apparently even though its prone to mistakes and mis-interpretations. Voice can be done without kinect BTW. A gimmck pirce of tech nothing more.

Was just about to say that.  Some people are such big fanboys that they refuse to use anything from a competitor (Even if it is far better).  I think Xbox is a massive burden to MS and toxic to the video game industry.  Doesn't mean I don't really like windows!  Get a life people!!!

LMAO!  WMC connects to a PS3 very easily.  Oh and PS3 plays Bluerays and lets you watch Netflix without a paywall.  Hell Xbox fanboys derrided the PS3 for being too much of a media center, and now that the Xbox One is mainly a media center they act like it's good!  People make me laugh!
