Nintendo, make a SKU with a full HDD, like 250GB or 500GB, then, I am in.

Or you could just buy a 2 TB external for under $100.  300 dollars for deluxe or WW sku + 100 for 2 TB external = ~400

Nintendo doesn't try to rape you on hard drive prices in their SKUs.  They went with SD format for 3DS and SD cards are dirt cheap now.  External hard drives are dropping all the time.  At least they weren't like Microsoft with the 360 hard drives or like Sony with Vita memory cards.  You have to buy from them and they are overpriced.

You can keep dreaming about a 250/500 GB sku considering 250 GB SSD on Amazon are around 180 or so and 500 GB SSD are around 350 (Wii U uses SSD for their internal storage).  Sure they could get them cheaper buying them in bulk but the cheapest most affordable option is to go out and buy an external hard drive to attach to the Wii U.

That actually looks pretty enticing. How limited will that bundle be?

As I understand, I need a HD with its own power source, these cost a fortune in Brazil, like 300 dollars...

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I believe you can just use one that doesn't have it's own power source but need the dual usb connection cables or something like that.  I need to look further into this because I haven't had a need to purchase one yet for my Wii U.

What external USB storage devices can be used with Wii U?

  • What external USB storage devices can be used with Wii U? To ensure maximum performance between your Wii U and an external storage device, we recommend using a hard-disc drive (HDD) with a dedicated power source (i.e., using an A/C adapter). Due to the wide range of external hard drives, usability and performance will vary. For more information on external USB storage devices that can be used with Wii U, click here.

So they recommend but I believe you can use ones that don't have a dedicated power source.  I believe the ones that use two usb cables to connect to the system can still work.  I need someone else to clarify this though because I am not sure.

This comes with a power supply and is 90 dollars (for a top notch one I would expect to pay over 120) Forget that other places like Brazil have huge price tags on almost anything electronics.  What is the Wii U price there now in Brazil?

It is around R$ 1300 for the Basic 8GB version, which is around 500 dollars, and R$ 1600 for the 32GB Deluxe, which is around 650 dollars.

A patch bigger than the game itself? Oh Olaf Gunnarsdottir... how the wannabe-mighty has fallen.

Lol, why Olaf Gunnarsdottir?

I think it's safe to say that 3rd party games on WiiU won't get patched as often as on the other consoles partly because of the HDD space being so low for most.

1) Because it's funny.

2) Are you telling me that patches are the norm, rather than the exception? And people seriously question why I spit on third parties?

They are most definitely the norm for video games. I expect a patch on every game I own, because there's a patches on the vast majority of new games.

Sounds like you have accepted the responsibility of being a beta tester.

So mario's been moved forward to november and donkey Kong pushed back to december. Finally Nintendo have done something right this gen!

What would you need an HDD for?

A patch for Splinter Cell

Patches take up very little room unlike mandatory installs on MSony consoles.

Yes, I forgot to add installs in. WiiU wouldn't be losing comparisons like the one I linked to if it had a HDD I think, and devs would allow you to install a part of the game on it.

The install for textures, etc (similar to X360) could be on Wii U as an option. Those with space and who care, can. Those without, can't.

To your original post... HDD is stupid to add. For $350 I can get a new Wii U with Zelda and 2x the storage space that a bare bones PS4 will come with for an extra $50.
