seriously nintendo,.. you don't announce price drops in advance; announce on the day you drop the price.

That article is not even a month old. His assessment is right, but it seems Nintendo decided they cannot output more games, so they cut the price instead. That will be a difficult gen for Nintendo. Well on home console, the 3DS works well.

Generally speaking, when a company drops the price on an item, retailers get that money kicked back to them. |
That's the thing, the price isn't being dropped till Sept 20th. So if it is $350 until then it will basically sell nothing. On the other hand, if Nintendo is paying to let retailers cut the price early, then what is the point of waiting for the 20th. Either way, it doesn't really make sense to announce this so far ahead of the cut.
Still too expensive, will do ok - decently over the holidays then plummet again.

That it's only about 2 weeks old or so is the only reason I still remembered it. :p
What I want to know is how this is going to affect Iwata's "push to Nintendo-like profits." This is the second time in a row he's had to cut the price on a struggling platform--only this time, instead of having to eat a loss, it's made already-existing per unit losses even bigger.
And frankly,Nintendo's yearly sales projections for the WiiU are insane. Even if Smash and MK8 come out before the end of March, they have to pick up the slack for the abysmal sales of the last quarter while competing with the PS4 and Xone simultaneously. I'm not expecting much from the July-September numbers either, as the biggest release (Zelda) will only be out during the last two weeks of the period.
I expect this to help, but the WiiU can't possibly meet Nintendo's lofty expectations of 9 million units AND solid profitability this year.
Good move by Nintendo the wii u would have been greatly overshadowed this holiday if stayed at its horrible price
Now we have a nice spread for next gen consoles.
WiiU-$300
PS4-$400
X1-$500
I'll be getting a PS4 this holiday but unfortunately won't be getting WiiU until late next year when a good Black Friday bundle has Smash or Mario Kart packed in.

Maybe retailers will reflect the price now? |
Most retailers are already selling the WiiU below the RRPP price. I don't think that will change

So far only US... but they won't cut it only in 1 country.
By the way, Nintendo has also announced a Wind Waker HD Special Edition ? It will come with this
