That article is not even a month old. His assessment is right, but it seems Nintendo decided they cannot output more games, so they cut the price instead. That will be a difficult gen for Nintendo. Well on home console, the 3DS works well. |
That it's only about 2 weeks old or so is the only reason I still remembered it. :p
What I want to know is how this is going to affect Iwata's "push to Nintendo-like profits." This is the second time in a row he's had to cut the price on a struggling platform--only this time, instead of having to eat a loss, it's made already-existing per unit losses even bigger.
And frankly,Nintendo's yearly sales projections for the WiiU are insane. Even if Smash and MK8 come out before the end of March, they have to pick up the slack for the abysmal sales of the last quarter while competing with the PS4 and Xone simultaneously. I'm not expecting much from the July-September numbers either, as the biggest release (Zelda) will only be out during the last two weeks of the period.
I expect this to help, but the WiiU can't possibly meet Nintendo's lofty expectations of 9 million units AND solid profitability this year.
