Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Reveals the Newest Addition to the 3DS Family: Nintendo 2DS

Oh god what have they done to the 3DS?

I love my 3DS, but this is just wrong in so many ways. The ugly design, the (likely) less than comfortable feel, the awful and confusing name. The only thing they got right was the price, and probably the release date since it is coming out on the same day as Pokemon. Still, taking out 3D is like taking out the main feature of 3DS. I mean they just took out the 3D of 3DS and they are still calling it part of the 3DS family. lol.

Now what, a Wii U without the gamepad for $199.99? I think that may be coming in a year's time just like the 3DS first got a price cut and now this 3D-less version.

See the "Sleep" slider at the bottom right corner? I'm guessing you just slide that to enter/exit sleep mode.

Oh yeah, good shout.  Looks like it functions more like the PSP's power button.

omg what? The naming nintendo, what are you doing with the naming,

I think the fact that the 3DS was so named that is already causing confusion, as it seems to just be a 3D DS, so parents don't see the need to buy it for their kids.

Then to release a new designed 3DS and name it the 2DS just adds so much more unneeded confusion are games going to be packaged as 2DS/3DS games?

This. Seriously.

The name of this model challenges the platform brand overall. Now we have a DS, 2DS and 3DS, with the latter two being the same platform, despite not being clear from the start. This, and the fact of "downgrading" 3D from one of the unique features of the platform to one that not everyone will have available doesn't seem to be worth it for the few extra sales that could come from this... I could be wrong, but this is how I see it now.

Yeah, the platform itself is fine but I do agree the name 2DS sounds like it is going to cause unneccessary brand confusion, especially since all of the current 3DS software have ''3DS" written and the less knowledgeable parent might just think "Jimmy has a 2DS but I can't seem to find 2DS games anywhere."

I mean couldn't they just have called it the 3DS Flat or Smooth, at this point, this hardware revision has only one serious flaw besides color and its the name. I don't think it will be too determental but I don't see it helping avoid confusion. Strange for a company so intent on making many of their games easier they sure don't seem to mind making their product names more puzzling then needed.

Everyone has their opinion and I respect it, but the butt ugly award goes to the PS4.

I don't respect that opinion

This shit is ugly.

Just admit it.

Nintendo just invented the portable you only use at home

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Eh its not so bad. People are overreacting. They did say it was meant for kids 7 years or younger to 'protect' them from the 3D. There are lots of parents out there who are concerned about the 3d effect, and kids will insist on turning on the 3d. If i was a parent id prefer this over the 3ds for my kid.

What was that Onion article headlined? "Ethnically diverse group of attractive young people get together to enjoy advertiser's product"?

LOL.

pezus, myself, play4fun, etc, can we just stop trolling?

I might just get the original 3DS actually, I need a portable that's actually portable.

Kids are just going to scratch that screen to peices.

However.....this could make sales explode. $129 + $40 for the New Pokemon? $129 for a video game system! wow.
