I haven't read past the first page, but I think it's more about nostalgia. I loved it on the SNES and N64 which made me happy to see it come alive. Now after countless years it remains to be seen if the formula holds up. There have been so many blast from the past games trying to make a comeback and fail. Whether they fail to live up to expectations, fail due to outdated formulas, or simply for being terrible depends on who you ask.

Blazblue, Guilty Gear, Persona 4 Arena, Smash Bros Melee and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

Honestly, I don't see KI as being that fast.  The only thing that seems fast about the game is the speed at which moves cancel into each other in combos.  Overall character movement isn't exceptionally quick or anything.  It's a bit faster than Street Fighter IV AE, but not really by much.  Kind of middle of the pack in terms of speed.

How about a fast paced game that plays similar to Killer Instinct.  I dont really know how to word what I am trying to say but games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, and Killer Insinct are more similar to each other than let's say Persona 4 and Smash bros.

I would say Blazblue, Persona, Marvel vs Capcom, and King of Fighters is similar to eachother (All still playing differently).

Blaz Blue and persona are similar, but Marvel vs Capcom is not similar to Blaz Blue or Persona.  Like I said, I don't think KI is that much faster than SF4.  The characters overall movement speed is similar, and the only fast thing is the (what seems to me) dial a combo system.  Basically, the games are normal speed until one character lands their combo opener, then KI is faster till the combo sequence is over, then the speed is back to normal.  Street Fighter X Tekken is pretty similar.  Similar overall speed, and both have an empahasis on combos, even if the ones in KI are better.

Honestly, KI seems pretty bland to me, but I'm happy for KI fans who've been waiting for a sequel.  Always nice to have your patience rewarded.

I've praised other X1 games like DR3 and crimson dragon so this had nothing to do with the game being on the X1.  Also there are plenty of games where I didn't play the other games in the series but was still hyped for the game, ex I have never played a lego game but I'm hyped for marvel superheroes.  Nostalgia shouldn't be the only reason to hype a game so I was curious what the other reasons were for other people.

"Nostalgia shouldn't be the only reason to hype a game..." what a load of bullshit.

You think people are only excited about KI because its an old IP? We're hyped because we enjoy the gameplay of the original games and we want to see the series continue. The previous KI games still hold up very well, the gameplay of KI has passed the test of time and we look forward to seeing the new game.

Your reasons for being hyped about the game are all about the previous entries in the series and nothing about this one.  This is not being made by the same people that made the original KI...for all anyone knows this game will be in the same case as BK Nuts & Bolts.

you know I think the worst thing by far about all the hype around KI has to be that people are expecting a game from
http://www.metacritic.com/company/rare-ltd these guys with this kinda quality.... wow that meta score doesn't even include some of their earlier stuff on the N64 and SNES
but yeah the company who are putting this game together are actually these guys
http://www.metacritic.com/company/double-helix-games
Their best scoring game to date being a 13 year old PC game and they've not had a game in the Green ratings since 2002 on the original Xbox. Look at their more recent games... Battleship, GI Joe and Green Lantern on the Wii.

Are we really to expect them to break their 13 year slump and for KI to be a good game?

@jaywood
6 (not 8) characters will be available at launch, then 2 more in early 2014 (making 8). Then, several more at the end of 2014

The pricing model bugs you? $20 for 8 characters isn't cheap enough?

Unless they implement pay to win crap, you can't complain about the F2P strategy.

It would ruin the game if you are always fighting the same character, since there is only one free character, guess who you will be squaring off against 99% of the time?  I dont think the free the play model works well with a fighting game,  no matter how balanced it is.

Look at that, you're complaining about something you don't know if there is a solution for.

Hypothetically, even if you're correct. It should be noted not all players would play the same. That's what makes online play so enjoyable.

I've seen interviews, gameplay, and heard commentary from hardcore fighting fans that have played the new KI. That has eased my concerns about it being developed by a new team.

Years ago I was hyped about Street Fighter IV because of the previous entries... and I wasn't disappointed because it plays much like the previous games. That is what's being promised with the new KI game.

Worst case scenario, the new KI game sucks. Oh well! Life will go on. But as of right now, I'm hyped because I like what I see and hear thus far.

BK N&B wasn't a bad game by the way. You spend much time with it?

This is fun, keep throwing lame arguments at me.

i have no idea why all of the signs are pointing to this game sucking
only 6 fighters (2 more later as DLC) in a next gen fighting game in 2013
weird pricing model
the developer has never made a single good game

Lol your changing your arguement every time to benefit you and your calling my arguements lame?  You've now changed 3 times why your hyped about the game.  First it was nostalgia, then I argue against that and you change it to the previous entries, then I argue against that and now you change it to interviews and commentary you've seen.  There is honestly no point to keep going because your just gonna keep changing why your hyped for the game.
