It really does astound me how often a bunch of internet forumgoers seem to have more business sense than trained professionals with industry experience, haha. (Not even being sarcastic)

Yeah, its like they didnt learn their lesson when they released mario kart wii 2 days before gta 4!  Obviously mari kart wii didnt sell well because of that...

seriously though, w101 will do terribly, but it has nothing to do with gta.  Maybe if gta was also coming to the wii u, but it isnt.  W101 will do poorly because it is a niche game with limited appeal and questionable quality.  It was never going to do well.  The fact that the wii u hasnt built up any momentum is another reason why this game will fail.

There are only a few franchises on the planet that can take the fight to GTA. Mario Kart is one of them. ;)

Except they arent fighting with each other, that was my point.  The target audience for mario kart wii is completely different than gta.  Just like the target audience for w101 (if there even is one) is different from gta.  Honestly, I cant even think of a scenario of somebody walking into a game store and having to choose between the two games.

think on the bright side; it will be a good collector's item in a few years

Japan: Only 30,000 copies being shipped, severely capping its sales.

Europe: Forget about it, at this point you'd have to pay them to touch a Nintendo game.

US: Launching 3 weeks late for no good reason, which never helps sales, and launching 2 days before GTA5.

All regions: New IP, niche game, mixed reviews.

Brace yourselves guys, new ammo for "Wii U iz doom3d" is coming. *Waits out the storm in his bomb shelter made of unsold Wii Us, playing Need for Speed Most Wanted U and Pikmin 3*

But let me guess. If this was coming out on a non-Nintendo platform, it would sell great, correct?

I wonder if it will sell more than Wind Waker since that is not only a remake but also a game that didn't sell well

why do you say WW didn't sell well? its over 4mil

Eh, it sold almost 5 million on a system that only sold 20 million.  Thats 25% or 1 in 4 gamecube owners that owned it.  I wouldnt say it didnt sell well.

It won't. Wind waker actually sold pretty well considering it was on a console that only pushed 22 million units; at 4.6 million, about 1 in 5 GCN owners had the game; a very high attach rate. Plus, it's Zelda, and the game's reputation has improved a lot since its release, so even as "just a remake" it will easily outsell W101.

No, it would not sell great on any platform

Nope, it'd be screwed on PS3 and 360 as well.

Most gamers don't subscribe to only one genre or style of game. I don't find it at all hard to believe that a gamer could be interested in both. GTA5's appeal is so vast that it's almost inevitable it would overlap with a fair bit of Wii U's userbase.

Well allow me to go against the grain then, and predict at least 400-500k lifetime. Minimum.
