Forums - Microsoft - I dont think it's cut and dried that PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One

Its not always about power. PS3 stronger than XB360 yet in the USA Xbox was king. SNES stronger than Genesis, yet Genesis was more popular.

If the PS4 is more powerful than the X1 just like the PS3 was more powerful than 360, it means absolutely nothing.

I think with current gen still being developed along side, it may be at least a year before we see any advantages of 3rd party games. Crikey working on 6 versions of the same game must be an absolute nightmare... It's going to take a bit to get their tools/software to take advantage of the PS4/XboxOne setups. 1st party will be where its at initially.

Oh man, I edited my post before you quoted it...

Anyway, I partially agree with you.

Fundamentally yes, first party studios will be the main differentiatiors, but that will not be visible until later this next gen. All because of assymetrical strategies. Xbox investing massivelly while Sony cutting costs on development. Digital Foundry already made a launch comparison based on E3 demos from the actual consoles (not PCs), overall in X1's favor.

And regarding multiplatforms yes I fully agree with you. The differences should take at least a year. And personnally they might never happen if X1 becomes the lead platform again considering it seems to have the more efficient development environment again.

Not sure about E3, companies have been known to do lots of smoke and mirrors and I am not convinced about any games that have been shown - even more so that in most cases we havent actually seen the dev kits plugged in. I know EG said they believed some of the MS demo's were on devkits, but i currently am not convinced. I am going to Eurogamer show in September so will at least get to see the PS4 games.. :)

Sony's development environment is strangely better than MS's at this point in time apparently.

The PS3 has more theoretical performance than the 360, but to unlock it took loads of clever and time consuming programming. PS3>>360 for theoretical power but 360>PS3 for ease of development making the end result pretty much PS3=360.

This gen the theoretical difference is much greater. More like PS4>>>>>>XB1 and the PS4 also is easier to develop for. This gen is really different than the last but people keep shouting PS360 like that gen was the rule. Much better historical example is PS2 verse Xbox. Xbox was stronger, simpler to code for, and its games looked a lot better. OG Xbox=PS4, PS2=XBox One.

Yeah and what they said wasn't particularly encouraging :)

The biggest shock remains in how few of these games are actually running directly from console hardware right now, with almost every third-party developer openly admitting to a reliance on PC-based debug machines. The accuracy of this approach doesn't precisely pinpoint the end result, though we do see Dead Rising 3 and Crimson Dragon struggling to sustain 30fps under such conditions. This at least reveals each studio's attempts to demonstrate realistic results without the actual hardware to hand, rather than showing off overly flattering ones using unbounded specs.

Software running on genuine, visible Xbox One hardware falls in with a small first-party club, including titles like Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Ryse and Dead Rising 3. Each plays at a promised 1080p native resolution, with the former two targeting 60fps as well, both of which show huge promise as launch titles, covering off the racing and fighting genres quite nicely. The lack of games optimised to this point on actual Xbox One hardware is worrying, but even so, if the E3 demos are at all indicative, fans of zombie action games and rail-shooters should also be very well catered for when the hardware launches.

lol, if you compare it to the conlusion on PS4's side, X1 is the clear winner, which is my point :

Based on the sub-30fps performance and LOD streaming issues, certainly Guerrilla Games has some work to do on this forest section before its confidence rises to a point where any player can explore it at their leisure. The foundation of play is largely intact for long-time series fans though, and the touchpad controls open up some enticing new tactical options for multiplayer. We're confident that this section's rough edges - absent from the earlier Citadel demonstration - will be smoothed out by the time of release.

When it comes to the state of software development on PS4, the situation as it stands is surprising. On the one hand, freely playable first-party titles such as Knack and DriveClub suffer from noticeable frame-rate stutters down from 30fps, while on the other, "hands off" demos for the new Infamous and Assassin's Creed games appear to run without a perceptible hitch. This is in stark contrast to the playable software confirmed to be running direct from Xbox One hardware, such as Forza Motorsport 5 and Killer Instinct, which benefit to no end for targeting the 1080p60 gold standard, and largely succeed in doing so.

Not really sure where this conversation is going...haha.

Killer Instinct is a closed area fighting game, it looks ok, but if it wasnt running in 60FPS there would be something seriously wrong. Forza according to what i've heard is just Forza 5 (they havent actually added that much content), they have always targets 60FPS.

All i am saying is that both First party were not looking that great, and hardly any 3rd party is being show on actual consoles, so its way to early to see anything of use. So who knows :)

Will find out in September though..hope i can sneak a few hidden camera movie recordings while i am there :)

i dont even care which one has more power. all i want to do is play the games. i wont be playing a game looking at it saying ooh look at that power. ill be saying damn this developer did a helluva job. consoles power means shit if the developers suck.
