Gathering the musical notes... one of the worst game play ideas ever. I really don't understand how Nintendo thought that Zelda players would find enjoyment in that. It was like it was ripped straight off the cutting room floor from a Mario Galaxy level.
I didn't like the Siren fetch quests. It's not even that they were challenging. Just that, they served no purpose other than to the pad the length of the game.
About half of the dungeons were weak in comparison to the other 3D Zelda's.
By far the highlight of the game for me was the Ancient Cistern. Loved the dungeon, loved the boss, loved the level design. I wish the entire game had been that much fun.
Unfortunately, it wasn't.
I did appreciate the upgrade system they lightly worked into the game. I think it's DEFINITELY SOMETHING THEY SHOULD MAKE AN EVEN BIGGER PART OF THE NEXT 3D ZELDA (Hint hint, are you reading this Nintendo? I'm giving you guys some solid free advice here). I also appreciated the post-game content that has always bothered me as the series has never embraced it prior to this game. Hero Mode, and the Boss Rush mode. Very nice touches. Again, something that should be embraced and expanded upon even further in the next installment.
Overall, I'd say on the same level as Twilight Princess for quality, but probably less fun because of some of the weird ideas that I didn't think fit well with a Zelda game. Ocarina and Majora are still better games overall, in my opinion. Wind Waker is probably step above TP and SS now that I think about it, too.

I remember giving the game a 8-8.5...so 8.3
I liked the game...I havent played it in awhile but the pros about the game were...
- overall great artist style from envornments, and character designs
- creative and fun dungeons, I really loved the time crystal stuff.
- the story was nothing special but very enjoyable.
- I really liked fi and zelda as a character.
However there were a few cons which were
- hated the forced motion controls
- very dissapointed with the music
- didnt like that the only free roaming was at skyloft and fly
- fi, I liked her as a character but hated her during gameplay
- I may have liked the envornments and character design but thought the enemy designs were very week.
- the game was super easy
Overall I thought the game was great, not a master peice and nothing revolutionary. Its my least favorite 3d zelda game comparing them to OoT, MM, WW and TP.
Skyward Sword has my favorite Zelda Dungeon (ancient cistern) and one of my top five dungeons (sandship) but there is just WAY too much padding, the graphic style is on a system that's too weak to do it justice, and the motion controls are shoehorned into unnecessary crap. (swimming sucked) Also, no exploration or natural day night cycles made the world feel that much faker. I didn't really like the game overall.
| NintendoPie said: *Shields eyes from Spoilers* I wonder if I ever will finish Skyward Sword. It's pretty pathetic that it's been out for well over a year and I've only gotten to the Desert Area. (Not completely sure what it is called.) |
Maybe you should play more games instead of talking about them. Even I, one of the enemies of the mushroom kingdom, have beaten Zelda SS, even before 2011's end.
Skyward Sword was good but not great. This is speaking in Zelda terms of course as even the worst Zelda games are masterpieces compared to other game series.
Its most interesting aspect is probably the story. Other than that, most of the dungeons were not all too memorable, and the boss battles as well (I don't quite remember all the bosses now that I think about it... looks like I'll have to replay it one of these days). Motion controls were fine, not great or anything, just fine. It was cool that some enemies could not be made without the motion plus controls. The music was amazing as always. The hallmarks of a good Zelda game are present. Overall, good game for a modern Zelda.
Man, it's been a while since I played SS last time... Let's see if I remember what was good and what was bad.
It's a really really good game, but it does have its faults.
+Art style. Loved the art style!
-Character design wasn't always as good as the art style though. Some characters looked TOO cartoony.
+Motion controls! Best way to slice through your enemies EVER!
-Motion controls! SUCKS when they're not working properly (which happens too often)!
+The ground levels/worlds were amazing! Full of content, and actually challenging for once! It was kinda like a mini temple/dungeon :D Loved it!
-The ground levels/worlds got repetitive when you had to revisit all the time... Even though they tried to mix it up in certain kind of ways.
-Barren Over world. Yeah. It was pretty empty up in the sky. That's just boring.
+Great supporting characters! I especially enjoyed Groose and his development as a character.
+Great story! I loved how Link always followed Zelda, trying to catch up to her. And Zelda was pretty cool as a character in this game, instead of simply being captured and needing rescue. I feel as if Nintendo made a mistake in NOT giving her her own game to show her adventures; would have made a great DS game I reckon.
+The temples rocked!
-The music wasn't as great as in previous Zelda games... Can't remember a single tune except for the Ballad of the Goddess. Wasn't bad though.
+I loved the Silent Realm; it was such a nice mix up from the rest of the game running around without weapons, trying to stay hidden!!
+Awesome bosses! AWESOME bosses!
-Revisiting the Imprisoned One time and time again...
-The side quests were boring and repetitive.
+The leveling up system for the gear was a great addition!
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
