Forums - Gaming - Most creative game

Discussing Super Mario 3D World's level design and creativity, inspired me to make this.

For you guys, which game personally felt the most creative to you? Be it in level design or any other aspect.

For me personally it has to be Super Mario Galaxy 2, it is the most creative game ever for me, GameTrailers were spot on when they said that the levels of Super Mario Galaxy 2 are more creative then most FULL retail games.

Braid. Not THE most creative game, but certainly one that comes to my mind always.

I don't think I mean this but I'll say this anyway: Minecraft.

...hmmm hard to say....from a gamedesign perspective...I have to go with Pikmin

Good topic!

This is a tough one to answer. I might have to say the original Super Mario Bros., as boring and predictable as that sounds. It's a masterpiece of level design, sound, play control, and game mechanics -- and it was light years ahead of its time.

Psychonauts.

To me, the whole thing just SCREAMS creativity.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

- Fez
- Braid
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Demon/Dark Souls
- Pikmin
- Mirror's Edge
- Wii Sports
- Valkyria Chronicles
- Flower
- Journey

Those are the ones that come to mind right now.

If we're stickly talking about level design only, then I agree with the statement that Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 have the best level design of any and all games.

Metroid Other M

it's what happens when you let creativity overtake every other aspect of a game's creation

I really enjoyed that game despite its flaws. Gameplay was solid. I prefer third person Metroid games to the first person ones. Even if the first Metroid Prime was near flawless.

Other M had some really bad game design, and the story wasn't really good. But I think they could revisit the foundations of that game, mix in more aspects of Super Metroid in it... Make the game less story driven and more exploration based... And last but not least, let Samus be ALONE on the planets she explore. I'm tired of seeing all the military goons get in the way of the atmosphere. Let the environments tell the story. No need for lenghty cut-scenes.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
