How can you prove that VGCharts numbers are close?

I actually think that the 3DS sold less than that but then everyone has an estimate of how many were sold, right?

The most likely reason why the shipment numbers are so low is that it sold less than expected last holiday and resulted in overshipping. In NA+EU, Paper Mario was the only big title last holiday and there were great DS deals on black friday, this caused 3DS sales to undeperform in the west in holiday 2012. There was no need to ship a ton of units to begin this year since they had so many still on shelves.


I have always used vgchartz when we have no official data.

Well we have no official data, like I said shipped does not equel sold. Overshipping in one quarter results in undershipping the next.

Vgchartz isnt always 100% accurate but for the most part they are close when it comes to hardware numbers so I will continue to use them since we are posting on this site afterall. There is no way they have it anywhere close to 2.6 million off.

Clearly smartphones have eaten into 3DS sales that much in the west



i would counter by saying month of june Nintendo stated in US sales were 225k! Bammmmm! lol

stop trolling, your numbers are shipped not sales. Media create is OFFICIAL SALES, EVERYBODY IN US THAT TRACK SALES USES THEM, IGN/VGChartz/etc. So in reality your 100% wrong, cuz you cant compare ship and sales. Its 2.6mil ship cuz we got leftover 3ds's from last holiday, look at your OFFICIAL NINTENDO numbers lmao, its clearly obvious you dont like nintendo, you only come in trying to bash it and then ignore real facts.... FAIL

I am pretty sure that the users on NeoGAF are smart enough to figure out that Nintendo's shipment numbers for calendar year 2013 are below sellthrough for the same period of time, because Media Create and NPD combined outpace Nintendo's shipment numbers before any other countries are taken into account. Therefore they wouldn't take Nintendo's shipments as the best point of reference to make predictions for the full year. Neither would we on VGC, because it's plain and simple stupid.

But anyway, you've made your choice.

All those sites also use Nintendo's ship numbers. Example:
