best in gameplay i agree, in sales i dont think it'll pass gold/silver, but if it did (which would be f-ing amazing) it'll never get close to red/blue/green

aside from the first 2 generations, yes this seems to be the best, lots of older players that didn't play gen 5 or maybe gens 3+4 are coming back, the game has so much more to offer then any other gen, biggest improvements as well. For your Question, 3DS doesn't have as much a DS but at the same time does it matter? Ex look at the GBA, it had just pokemon ruby/sapphire and it sold close to 16mil with half the install base of the DS! Dont underestimate now Not saying it will make 20mil, but lowest i see now is at least 16mil.... LEAST!

That's why I questioned how much 3DS will sell, it does depend because if it happens reach something close to 20 million, it won't be anytime soon, probably until the 4DS is announced or something (if the install base of 3DS grows immensly). 

And the DS had such a high install base, yet not even D/P reached 20 million. Plus, the buyers of Pokemon games vs. the install base per console generation has been reducing as each Pokemon generation passes by (look at D/P vs B/W for example, there are more DS's sold when B/W was released compared to D/P, yet it sold less). Could it do it? Not impossible, but I find it highly unlikely. 15 million is a higher possibility though.

Oh, uh no, that was just a random number. I'm thinking 10 million minimum, 16 million maximum.

also D/P were the best of pokemon games and the had to fight piracy and had there legs cut out from them by platinum, heartgold soulsliver, BW & BW2 with were all better games 

 

also what you said about buyers of pokemon reduceing over time is not true Red & blue sold 31M gold sliver sold 23M ruby and sapphire sold 15.85M D/P sold 17.63M Black and White sold 15.42M -  http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/software/ds.html

i think your in for quite a surprised then lol. Theres a nice chance it'll do around 10mil in 2.5months (this year) alone!!! Dont agree? I think It will outsell every gen up to gen 1. Gen one is the real challenge.
