Microsoft has spent more than $100 million on designing the Xbox One controller. It sounds like an extraordinary sum, but that includes the design of hundreds of pad prototypes, thousands of hours of user research studies, and creating new tooling and construction facilities. The project dragged on for two-and-a-half years

yet.. still $100M for a controller.

I don't understand what you are trying to say

I am bolding and underlining this to make it seem important when really it's not.

$100Mil for a better grip on the analog sticks and some additional rumble motors? Oh well, that's probably like 0,1% of the Xbone's R&D costs or 0,000..........0001% of their yearly income....

Stop acting like everytime someone says anything remotely negative about Microsoft it's the same as calling you the bastard child of a French hooker. They read exactly what the article basically told us. Microsoft spent 100 million to do little more than slightly alter the physical design, add small rumble motors in the triggers, put in some over the top data transmission that would have only made any real sense if it was two Wii U gamepads stuck together, and they still couldn't manage to put a rechargeable battery back in there. It doesn't matter how many failed prototypes they spent that money on. It ultimately means they spent a ridiculous amount of money for marginal improvements. Makes you wonder how much of that one billion they spent on exclusive games got wasted like that.

Lol. If that's true (which I doubt), I cannot even begin to imagine how much the entire X1 R&D will have cost them.

I assume that's where Microsoft's '1 billion consoles this gen'-comment comes from, they'll need to keep selling it until 2050 to break even. O_o

And people thought WiiU's Gamepad was expensive.

Doesn't seem to be that far fetched.. Creating all those models.. New technology to get the latency down 20%.. Patents for that.. Setting up production lines..  super high quality molds for the production lines etc etc but at 60 bucks.. MS get what? 20 bucks from a controller? Thats only like 5 milion controllers to be sold..

MS had 10 billion dollar R&D budget.. Sony 5.5 billion.. 100million is nothing cause it includes setting up the production line

now imagine how much for Kinect :D

And worth every penny!

The best controller just got better. :D

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
