Forums - Gaming - Addressing The Argument That Japanese Developers Are Not As Good As Western

Great. Now i walked into a thread where people needed to bash western games just to defend eastern game design. Fight hate and generalizations with more of it.

Also i don't see the point in convincing everyone who doesn't agree with you. People like different things and that is perfectly alright given the free will be have as human beings.

Just play what you like and don't bother fighting internet opinion battles. No one really wins unless you are just doing it because you are bored.

Fighting generalizations with more generalizations is meaningless. Sorry, but you're doing the same thing they are. I mean, most western games are 8 hours? I've put tons of hours into Fallout New Vegas, Torchlight 2, AudioSurf, and Borderlands 2 over the last six months. What about Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age?

These generalizations accomplish nothing. If you want to defend Japanese games, fine, but trying to do that by lumping all western games together serves no real purpose.

LOL.  Don't get me wrong, Audiosurf isn't a bad game.  I have it too (got it soon after it released).  However, it's not exactly a game you complete.  It's more like an arcade game.

Rats, you're right, because I said complete.  LOL, wait, no I didn't.  What does that have to do with anything?

Well, the point is that the time you put into a game like Audiosurf varies considering the type of game it is.
You may not have said complete, but you were responding to "Western games being around 8 hours."
Any Western arcade game would have beat that number.

Japan doesn't evolve much, most of their games feature outdated gameplay that is stuck in the PS1 or PS2 era.

This gen it has been the west that has pushed online, pushed graphics and pushed new gameplay experiences. Japan has mostly pushed copy followed by paste.

Demon/Dark Souls, Super Mario Galaxy, Ni No Kuni, Metal Gear Rising, Valkyria Chronicles, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Zelda TP and SS with their control, Mario Kart Wii, Bayonetta, Kid Icarus Uprising, Monster Hunter 3, MGS4, any Professor Layton, any Ace Attorney, Dissidia Final Fantasy,  just off the top of my head from this past gen.  None of those games are "stuck in the PS1 or PS2 era" and were pushing new gameplay experiences.

The people saying that probably only play Call of Duty and never heard of JRPGs

Really? Where you got that from?

COD has an unparalled gameplay mechanics in realistic military FPS genre. It's the bar set for all the military FPS.

The fun meter must be the highest in the industry because it's best selling franchise at the moment. So all that COD bashing and mocking it's from people that never played it or suck at it.

Now back on track, people voicing that Japanese game suck it's because they don't like it not because Japanese game really suck(we all know that's not true).

People just have different taste for games and Japanese games have become scarce this gen and those games have become alien to most of the western gamers.

COD is more of a rage inducer, than a high quality experience.

Any there are many people who play COD, and have never played a JRPG

So brilliant there Puma. Your assertion that over 100 million people buy Call of Duty games because they can rage playing it. I mean how is even there room for conversation when you are equally prejudicial towards people you are trying to make a point against.

I dunno if I would say there are 100 million different people playing Call of Duty.

It really is just the silliest discussion to argue over.  This thing some people do, where they bash something else in order to make their own favorite look good, it really highlights how fanboy wars get started in the first place.  The crazy thing about it is that there is so much variety in games out there that the generalizations are just plain ridiculous.

The sad part is that you know it's just going to continue to escalate, with the generalizations get worse and worse.  It makes me want to suplex a deer.

Call me crazy but I like games from both the east and the west, and even if I didn't, I wouldn't worry about trying to prove one side was better than the other--especially when the proof people are using is nothing but personal opinion.

If people rage while they're playing COD they need to get themselves checked and socialize.

Your second statement tells me that you don't know that much people that plays COD.

I said most, not all.  I can honestly name way more western games that clock around 8 hours than you can name that are significantly longer.

Ok.  Go ahead.

Basicaly every movie based game, every gear of war game, every uncharted game, every halo game, every cod game, Tomb Raider, every Bioshock game, Max Payne 3, both L4D games, every god of war game, heavy rain, the dead space games, batman arkyam city, both Prototype games, prince of persia the forgotten sands, fable 2, every littlebigplanet game, splinter cell conviction, every army of two game, bodycount, every bf game, brink, blur, bulletstorm, bionic commando, both crackdown games, crysis 2 and 3.  Honestly I could go on all day, but I think I've made my point.
