One thing I gotta say though is ... say what you want about Microsoft but man these mofos *know* how to launch a console.

I've got a PS4 pre-ordered, but I have to admit the XB1 has the better launch lineup. Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3, even Rhyse looks like a decent supporting title. And that one motorcycle game they had which was fairly mediocre visually, but had crazy gameplay (got to play it at E3, a blast).

And then you have Titanfall and Destiny coming in the 1st half of 2014.

These mofos know how to launch a console, the XBox, 360, and XB1 have all launched well.

Too bad this is about 2014 and not launch

MS has the best looking 2014 too IMO. Titanfall plus all those multi-plats plus probably something like a new Gears coming for fall 2014. And I'm not even getting the XBox One, lol, but I can admit that.

One thing about MS consoles that you rarely ever hear is "there's nothing to play". There's always content, I have to give it to MS as much as I'd like to probably see them fail, they bring it when it comes to making sure their consoles have games.

The 360's first year content wise beats both the PS3 and Wii in quality too.

I'll close my account if the Wii U is the top selling console in December.

I don't think you have to worry. It'll be the 3DS easily. Then probably all the other systems very close together, like maybe 150k separating the Wii U, PS3, 360, Xbone and PS4. What order they'll be in I do not know. This is assuming these next gen systems launch in mid November.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

No...they wont struggle like Nintendo has. Nintendo had content and marketing issues post launch. If it wasnt the Wii they didnt care.

Please don't take this as wii u bashing (I own one and love it) but Sony and Microsoft will sell very well through out their first year. The xbox one will not have as big of a price factor as everyone thinks and I predict that it may not match ps4 numbers but will still do very well for Microsoft. The biggest difference with these consoles is 2 parts, message and games. "Fanboy" banter aside Sony and microsofts products both have a very clear message. Each product stands out clearly from its predecessor and there is less confusion although much more marketing is needed to reach more consumers. And there is just many more games that are being talked bout than the Wii u had around its launch (we're waiting for more talk from Sony at gamescon). 3rd part support is better not only are you getting ports of current gen games but a lot of new multiplayer are being talked about. I think these launches will do better than nintendos.

I don't think Mario Kart 8 will sell anywhere close to Mario Kart Wii either.

MK Wii was the perfect bridge game for all those Wii Sports/Fit casuals that flooded in to the Wii, MK8 is not going to have the same boost IMO.

Plus I think MK Wii was "fresh" to a lot of people because of the steering wheel/motion gaming mechanic and the fact that a lot of people skipped the GameCube Mario Kart, because the GameCube simply wasn't popular enough of a console. So there was a long period for people's Mario Kart "apetite" to build up as it were (ditto for 2D Mario), a lot of people hadn't played Mario Kart since the N64 or even SNES days.

Mario Kart 8, having played it at E3, pretty much plays and feels exactly like MK Wii with a little bit of MK7 sprinkled in. It will still be a great game, but replicating MK Wii's success won't happen.

It's kinda the same problem I think Nintendo is running into with the New Super Mario Bros. series ... the first DS and Wii one put up monstrous numbers, but in part they felt really fresh for their time because a lot of people hadn't played a 2D Mario in ages. NSMB2 and NSMBU don't feel nearly as fresh because everyone just played NSMB/NSMB Wii a few years ago and the 3DS/Wii U aren't getting the Brain Training/Nintendogs/Wii Sports/Wii Fit traffic either.

People quickly forget that out of all 3 Nintendo had the biggest chunk of the casual market. Now I don't want to go into a definition of what a casual gamer is but I think we are starting to see a big exodus of those individuals in favor of other entertainment choices.

Call me crazy, but while the PS4 will have it's success (theoretically, people assumed PS3 would sell well right away too and it didn't), I think that with a steady supply of software like Yarn Yoshi, Bayonetta 2, Shin Megami Tensai x Fire Emblem, "X", and most especially new Mario Kart, Smash Bros., and hopefully by the end of the year new Zelda, along with strong indie eShop support and at least decent third party retail support, that Wii U could potentially have a big year in 2014.

I'm not saying they WILL sell the most units, but I'm saying especially with big, anticipated franchises like SB, MK, and Zelda, that it's very possible. We'll see.

How exactly do they stand apart from there predeccessors? One has Kinect 2.0 but the original Kinect has lost Iits steam and I dont see many people rushing to get 2.0 for $500. Same goes for the TV features, they are cool but alot of current devices do similar thibgs for much cheaper.

PS4 doesnt really have anything that makes it much diffetent than PS3 except for better visuals. Also both of these consoles will share most of there games with there predeccessors. PS360 will likely have price cuts this year or next so they will be roughly half the price of PS4/One.

You are taking a hardcore gaming stance. It i looked at every console generation objectably then I could have your very same argument. What stood out about the SNES over the NES. Nothing but graphics. It had the same nintendo strategy all the way down to execution but sold better. The reason was simply in the messaging. If I am a casual wii owner that don't follow these gaming sites it is very easy for me to confuse the wii and the wii u. He'll, in my demographic 30 plus many of my associates and colleagues didn't even know until very recent that Nintendo had a new product and even then it wasn't creating the same buzz. The problem don't just lie with differentiating it from the original wii but also from every other touch device. Those casual gamers that in just my opinion can acount for half of all the consoles they sold will not be returning throughout this generation. Nintendo didn't become a leader because they were the best company last gen they did it because they created arp duct that transcended gaming and (not to diss the original wii) but became a fad. Fads create tremendous buzz, blow up quickly, are easily reconizeable, and go away just as fast. They revolutionized motion gaming, but touch thanks to apple and Samsung and a few others is just not that mind blowing. I believe that the wii u will sell decently but they won't see the numbers of last gen again and mark my words. They will announce a new handheld in 2 years and a new console around 3 years from now.

I will just do what all the others do, vote for my preferred system. XBOX ONE WILL DOMINATE>

Actually I think Wii U will hold its own until 2015

It's kind of tough to say. The PS4 and X1 will be competing with their predecessors in the early years while the Wii U isn't competing with anything.

Er whut? The Wii U will be competing with every other console on the market, just like those consoles will be competing with the rest.

Im pretty sure he meant PS3/360/PS4/One all fight for the same demographic of 16-32 year old males that prefer shooters/racing/sports games while Wii U is moreso directed at Nintendo fans, kids, families

Sure, but they're all still video game consoles, so they're all competing with each other.

Thats absolutely true, I just think ur reading too much into his original comment. Hes not saying it in a derogatory manner, just stating that they appeal to different demographics. PS3/PS4/360/One will all be fighting for the same crowds money for the next couple years whilr if Nintendo plays there cards right can have an entire market to themselves

nintendo competes with the others AND it also has a merket of it's own.
