Forums - Gaming - Sales numbers for OUYA games revealed

To summarize:

It's best selling game so far, and currently an exclusive, Towerfall, sold 2,000, earning 21,000$ for the developer. They're happy and are now porting to PC.

Twin stick shooter Red sold almost 400 copies and according to the developer broke even.

Hidden in Plain Sight sold 1,900 copies, but at the average purchase price of just 2$.

Get on Top, 500 copies at 2$.

The trial of the huge Play Store hit Wind-up Knight was downloaded 15,000 times, but only 1% of players chose to unlock the full game, making 727$ for the developer.

Only a couple of days work to create OUYA ports of existing Android games, though.

Not sure how to put these numbers in perspective, how many OUYA owners out there right now? About 60,000 or maybe more?

So there are actually people who use it as an android-gaming-console? Consider me surprised ;)

Not...great...but I don't know, not terrible?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

not terrible as a cheap port device but no one will be able to make money without making it primarily for android phone/tablets.  doesn't exactly bode well as a viable self sustaining platform.

So, as an exclusive developer on OUYA I can pay exactly one month of rent if my game isn't the absolutely most successful game on the entire platform? Count me in.

No way it's more doomed than the Vita :D

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I think the model Gamepop is using is going to work much better for developers. They use a Netflix model where users pay a small monthly fee ($6.99) and developers get paid a % when their games are played. Because Gamepop will support off-phone (as well as controller) input, very little is required from a developer to make their game playable on Gamepop.

Because people are reluctant to pay for a game they may not like, especially when dozens of totally free games are available (or demos), having all paid games covered under your monthly fee allows users to explore every game to their hearts content, which should result in higher yields for developers.

Also Gamepop can play iOS games which is a far larger library than Android has. Of course, it'll ultimately depend on how many pick up a Gamepop/Gamepop mini (free with monthly service charge). Regardless, developers will have their games already available on Android/iOS and Gamepop will just be easy extra revenue.

I have a random question, do games I buy on Android automatically work on Ouya and vice versa?

No, you have to buy OUYA versions of games. You can sideload other Android apps, but they'll have no native support, which is especially important for proper control and scaling.

No, if I read correctly what you are asking. You ask if games you buy on playstore also work on Ouya, right? If so, no, because playstore is not officially supported on Ouya.
