Forums - General Discussion - UK: Online porn to be blocked by default

That's a good question, actually. What about people who are using University Networks, where they don't have any actual relationship with the service provider?

It is an interesting question. My guess, though, is that university networks wouldn't have porn banned. I'm under the impression that universities advocate freedom of speech and I doubt it would be in their interests to block porn. Still, can't be sure and it's a problematic situation. Actual users would probably have very little control over the matter in such cases.

Well the UK is related to the US, we just kicked them out and stopped paying taxes. Sooner or later we'll block deh pornz 2. We still have better teeth though. :)

Nah, the U.S. has lobbyists who will prevent such a thing.

@OP Seems like most of the "West" is in need for self-government.

The lobbyists are the ones taking our rights away. They aren't majorly out for us, but rather the corporate interest.

Certainly, but pornography is a corporate interest.

I think this is nice. I'm actually baffled that some are against it. We don't have unlimited porn streams coming to regular TV unless we request it, so I don't think we should have porn coming though the web in that way.

I don't have a problem with people watching porn, but the broadcast of it should be regulated. I like the idea of bringing some class to our culture.

Also, lol at the horse cum girl thing. I remember back in the day a friend of mine playing that on his computer with a room of friends including a bunch of girls. Want to talk about a way to clear out a room quickly...

Freeview does at night (which happens to be the new baseline set of TV channels since the digital switchover, so all TVs now have access).

However I mainly just wanted to add this:

you'd think the UK would be all liberal when it comes to porn and stuff. This is something,I'd expect the united states 2 do. I thought the uk was all relaxed when it comes to nudity and sex,but I guess I was wrong.

The government is trying to play parent. Blocking porn should be the responsibility of the parent, nobody else. There are more than enough effective tools to do it that parents can use.

All this will do is make those chinese guys who walk into cafes selling pirate DVDs start to sell porno DVDs again instead of just movies.

Look at the sales of GTA and COD. Parents aren't playing the parent. The incompetence of parents to play the judge and jury in their own house is forcing the government to force their hands into peoples privacy. It shouldn't be but they are really causing this nightmare to become a reality.

GTA and CoD have no releavance at all to this topic.

SInce you have no clue what I am alluding to, Its the parents ability to block content from being accessed by their children. I just used a something that hits closer to home for us all.

I support this. As a child who was introduced to porn at age 9, it did impact me negatively and continues to do so.

Same. Although I still don't agree with censorship like this.

well, there is no reason to live in the UK now

Couldn't kids just use a proxy site and view porn?
