The NES/SNES were great for the time, the N64 was good for the analogue but otherwise a mess, the GC was shaped ok but should of had a second stick, Wii was terrible, WiiU makes basic mistakes.

What do you mean, the Gamecube controller has 2 sticks.

Keiner kann ihn bremsen, keiner macht ihm was vor. Immer der richtige Schuss, immer zur richtigen Zeit. Superfussball, Fairer Fussball. Er ist unser Torschützenkönig und Held.

NES - Slight discomfort, very sturdy.
N64 - Major discomfort, sticks barely lasts three months of active use.
GC - Extremely comfortable, still using my original after ten years of active use.
Wii - Very comfortable, can't comment much on its durability since it hasn't been actively used. The A button already requires some extra pressure to work though.
Wii U - Above average, no damages so far.

In comparison, while the Xbox 360 controller also falls into the "extremely comfortable" category, I'm currently on my third wireless controller and could really use a new one. As for the original Xbox's S controller, while falling into the "very comfortable" category, had major issues with its wire's durability. Didn't last a year until it was unplayable.

And then there's the dualshock which I have very limited experience with. I can't comment on its durability, but that design wasn't really my style. A lot better than the NES and N64 controllers though.

NES = great

SNES = great

N64 = pure awesome. What I found with the N64 controller is that you needed a minimum level of intelligence to use it. All my smarter friends didn't have any issues and all my not so intelligent friends struggled with it big time.

Gamecube = great apart from the small d-pad.

Wii Controller = great too. I can't believe OP only liked this on Zelda. Do you like buy games at all lol? Have you played RE4, Godfather, COD?

Wii U gamepad = great for local multiplayer and feels comfortable.

Wii U pro, nice fit in hands for an adult.

I don't know exactly the problem people had with the 64's controller, I mean, it's not like you had to use both the D-Pad and the Analog Stick in the games at the same time, you just used one of them in every game. If people held it like the PS controller, trying to stick your thumb from the D-Pad to the analog, then you may have had a problem, but holding it normally wasn't uncomfortable, in fact, it's IMO the most comfortable controller I held till the release of the GC controller.

A lot of people had a problem with the size, it was clearly designed for small hands because for some getting a grip on the middle extension and trying to bend thumb and fingers for full use of the stick and trigger was too cramped, many people used to instead try and use the left extention and reach all the way over and under to the trigger and stick, though this has other issues.

I guess I have small hands then LOL

I will never, NEVER understand the comments saying the N64 controller was designed for people with 3 hands. I don't remember any game asking you to use the buttons+the stick+the pad. The ergonomics of the controller were perfect, and it had the best and most precise analog stick ever. Too bad that Nintendo did not include grease below the stick to make it more durable.

As for the others, they are all perfect except for the NES, which was really small. The Wii Remote is absolutely perfect too, fuck, I could play Smash Bros Brawl properly with the Remote ALONE. My only complain was the lack of an integrated lithium battery, but it's ok anyway.

The Gamecube's only flaw was the Z button, that was too small and on an awkward position, but I don't remember it being used that constantly. Same for the Pad, too small, but it was not that bad.

About the SNES', it's only flaw were those concave buttons, other than that it was perfect.

I think anyone who votes for worst haven't tried anything beyond Sony or Microsoft controllers.

I really like the GC controller. For the main buttons (ABXY) I think it's much more natural than the diamond shape that so many controllers have nowadays.

I also thought the triggers were super cool

 Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Nintendo have been known to release controllers which are excellent for about 5 games and feel a bit rubbish with most other games (N64 and Wii mote).

They have also created three of the best controllers of all time NES, SNES and Cube, so in balance they make some of the best and some of the worst controllers. When they're good they're very, very good; but when they're bad they're horrid.

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

Nintendo 64- controller was a bit weird, but overall ok
GameCube-no complaints, good controller
Wii-it worked fine for what it set out to do, though I hated it . Meh stratch that, just hated the whole system in general xD Just judging by controller though it was fine.
