Forums - Gaming - My thoughts on Tekken Revolution - What are yours?

my opinion, im addicted. get in 10-15 fights a day without dropping a cent. with the difficulty choice in arcade coming i can play that too. definitely worth a look for fighting game fans

Tekken for the most part always had wonderful presentation. Here its non existent and im not a fan of the art style they went with. But the mechanics feels like older tekken games less bounces they also change laws moves quite a bit.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

Yeah, the lack of presentation is a little jarring.  Being a long time fan, there was always loads of extras and tidbits, like extra art, character movie endings, etc.  Not to mention, the graphics were usually the most or near most beautiful for fighters in their respective generations (Tekken 3 blew everything away in its time, Tekken 5 was only bested by DOA3 and Ultimate on way better hardware and that's debatable because the art style in my opinion was better in the former).

Revolution has the same character entry animations and backgrounds no matter the stage and a small choice of stages (which aren't bad, but not nearly as epic as some used in the past).  I don't know what the current king of fighter graphics is, but I'd say it's less definitive than in past generations because the influx of 2d fighters have given the genre so much style.

Still, for a free option on a console there is no competition, at least not until Killer Instinct comes around.  If you want the typical Tekken presentation, I think Namco knows they have that covered with their retail products, but for a free game that doesn't require anything of the player aside from a little adaptation to the model (as a consumer we tend to look at what we don't get in comparison to Tekken Tag 2 or Tekken 6, but those released with $60 pricetags so to me it's just not comparable), I am pretty damn impressed.

Basically I share your opinion wholeheartedly because I value what I'm getting and I'm not concerned with what I am not.  Seeing as how I am not an entitled consumer in this case because I put 0 dollars down, I look at the great stuff I'm getting, like several characters (not 1 or 2 like some demos or the upcoming KI) that can be upgraded, unlockable characters, several matches a day and more if I can win tickets through certain fights, a ranking system, a match watching, and apparently as some of you have posted more to come.  ALL FOR FREE.

But that's just how I see it and I understand if some people don't agree what with the f2p offerings in different genres rivaling the biggest AAA titles out there.

As for the upcoming difficulty choice in arcade and new characters like you and others have mentioned, where do you get this news?  I'd like to know what's in store for this game and if there's a developer diary or wiki that'd be cool (or if it's just on one of Namco's sites, that's alright too I guess hehe).

Along with a training mode, arcade difficulty settings and more characters, I'd love to see some added features to customization.  Like say more costume options (skins and/or individual items ala past titles).  That would be something I could see Namco making money off in a fair way to the customer, because it would be totally optional and not hinder the gameplay in the least.  I'd put some dough down (albeit a little, because I'm pretty cheap lol).

I hate it, none of my favorite fighters isn't there to begin with : Jin, Steve and Xioyuo. And what worse is apparently the fighters unlocking are random!! My first unlock was a robot girl with a chainsaw!
So instead of letting people select their favorite fighters to begin with, Namco force you to fight whoever they give you and pay up to keep playing till you unlock your desired fighters??! (even if it mean a long way)
Seriously fucking dumb idea!!
Stick with TT2 everyone and don't waste your money on this trash!!

That must be frustrating, but like  Ajescent said, at least they are unlockable.  And I haven't had to pay a cent while playing the game so I don't feel robbed.  For those who want everything quick and painless, yes TT2 is where it's at.  Or you can P2W, but where's the fun in that?  I still think for those who want to go online and fight a couple matches or are interested in the RPG-lite progression in the game, it's not that bad.  Just give us our training mode already Namco! Hehe.

See my above post, and yeah TT2 all the way!

I get your gripe though I don't share it.  But I agree for the full Tekken experience TT2 is the game to get.  It'll push you back $60 (or $40 or whatever price it is now) though so I find it hard to fairly compare to TR.  If anything, TR has made me want to get TT2 for the reasons you said among other things missing from it.  I might make the plunge soon, myself but until then I'm enjoying TR.  I think TR supplements the main series, its not anything close to the next main game so that's why I can deal with it in the meantime.

I'll try it out when my characters join the roster.

Well: 2 things to consider

1: This isn't my theory, I stole it from Gamefaqs :D

2: The "Invincible" moves are similar to the unblockable attacks used in Street Fighter 4. The theory is that they are testing how it would work in a proper field test. But it's probably BS :D

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

I have heard that too, it makes sense, even the graphics are a bit more like SF4 (which I don't like, Ryu in Tekken form is the key). They just have to iron out the kinks, like I've pointed out, it have to make sure spamming isn't too frequent, like I've found but maybe that is the case just because there are limited characters to pick.

Hmm, pie.
