That must be frustrating, but like Ajescent said, at least they are unlockable. And I haven't had to pay a cent while playing the game so I don't feel robbed. For those who want everything quick and painless, yes TT2 is where it's at. Or you can P2W, but where's the fun in that? I still think for those who want to go online and fight a couple matches or are interested in the RPG-lite progression in the game, it's not that bad. Just give us our training mode already Namco! Hehe.

I get your gripe though I don't share it. But I agree for the full Tekken experience TT2 is the game to get. It'll push you back $60 (or $40 or whatever price it is now) though so I find it hard to fairly compare to TR. If anything, TR has made me want to get TT2 for the reasons you said among other things missing from it. I might make the plunge soon, myself but until then I'm enjoying TR. I think TR supplements the main series, its not anything close to the next main game so that's why I can deal with it in the meantime.
