Forums - Gaming - PC Gaming Is So Dead That 63% Of American Gamers Game on PC, Beating Smartphones and Handhelds

console gaming and handhelds will be dead like that in no time because of the DRM reversal and smart phones

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

The study brings some quite surprising results. While consoles get the lion’s share with 68%, PCs most definitely aren’t far behind, with 63% of the polled households. Smartphones are beaten by quite a large margin with 43%, and gaming handhelds appear “only” in the 37% of households.

Yeah... I don't think this is accurate.

Everyone in the world is playing animal crossing right now, what are you talking about?

What did they classify as a PC gamer, I mean I play League of Legends but that's the only PC game I play and I just play it on my regular laptop.  I don't really classify myself as a PC gamer.

maybe not? in japan?

I play Candy Crush so by default PC is the ultimate gaming machine vs consoles. Candy Crush is just as good as The Last of Us

How many of those are playing games on Facebook?

Well. PC you get higher profit margins on games sold, you don't have Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo taking a percentage of the sale.

Then if you were to look at the most popular games in terms of concurrent players, PC also ranks at the top with the likes of Dota, World of WarCraft, League of Legends, Team Fortress just to name a few, each has millions of players.

If you want to look at development budgets, look no farther than Star Wars: The Old Republic with it's $200 million dollar budget which is also PC exclusive.

The Sims franchise a PC exclusive has sold well over 150 million copies, outside of Nintendo it's the biggest selling exclusive games series.

Yep. PC gaming is dead I'm afraid! :P (It's stupidly massive in Asian countries, like South Korea where many PC games are broadcasted on dedicated TV channels such as with StarCraft).

Also, question. Is that chart combining *all* consoles or just a specific one? I'm assuming the former, which makes it even the more impressive in my opinion!
