Mario Won 90 votes, DKC 2nd 70 votes, Sonic 30 votes, Rayman 20 votes

I rounded them off since someone cheated 4 13.33%

All great platformers :) 9 30.00%

Also a shout out for the ... 1 3.33%

Battle Block Theater 1 3.33%

Super meat boy 1 3.33%

Limbo 2 6.67%

Little Big Planet 12 40.00%

Total:30

Mario, no content. Not only did he pave the way for games such as Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog but he did it without help and the games are just plain fun. The only DK I like are the 1st and 2nd on SNES, Returns, and 64.

Sonic has been up the loophole and down the loophole. However, Lost World, Generations, and colors are really healing Sonic's bad fall.

Rayman, he made me fall in love with videogames before Mario actually. My aunt had the first one on PSX and I played it all day. Haven't played Rayman 2 yet, 3 sucked balls. They're getting back on track with Legends and Origins but how much longer can that style of Rayman last? It's just like New Super Mario Bros.

Other honorable mentions: Kirby, Alex Kidd, Wonder Boy/Monster World, Megaman.

You didn't answer my question, and instead you're making me ask more questions lol. How is the platforming in LBP average and how are other platformers better? Is it not the levels themselves that make a platformer a platformer? Also there are tons of great levels out there of all varietys, you just have to find them.

I apologize.  Floaty is just not something you want in a platformer.  You want quick and responsive with tight controls.  Speed in platformers are important for challenges as well as the level designs.  The level design in all the above series are top notch, quick responsive platforming, with great charm.  That is in my opinion the 3 things you look for in a platformer.

A few other games as mentioned before fit these standards but they also arent as iconic either.  I will say that Sacboy and LBP is iconic though.

Watch the level below and see why you need tight quick controls.  Precision is key. When it is floaty and slow, it loses that precision.

However, if the levels are built around this floatyness (which they are, as who builds a level without taking the player character into consideration lol) then it shouldn't be an issue. It seems to me like you're knocking LBP just because it plays differently. This is edvident by how you're posting a video of Rayman instead of an instance of LBP's floatyness being problematic. I don't think it's fair to say LBP isn't as good for not controlling the same as your prefered platformer. It'd be like me saying Sonic is better than Mario because it's more fast paced. That may be why I like Sonic better, but that doesn't make him better overall.

You are right that it is built around the floaty nature of the game.  I think LBP2 was a huge improvement over the first with the added gun they had in the game ( It has been a long time since i have played the game) and the bounce pads.  Im not trying to knock on the game.  I use to have it in my top 10 favorite games of the generation.  It just isnt built around on percision and a lot of people has said things about it's floaty physics.  If it wants to be considered as one of the best platformers then i think it needs to improve.  On the plus side though it created a whole new genre in "Play, Create, Share".  So in a way it already represents a different genre and is in the top of it's class.

DKC3?

It's a step down from DKC2, (which is still one of the best games of all time) but it's still a great game, better than,  say, the New Super Mario Bros series, the Sonic games, or any Rayman except maybe Origins.

I dunno man, I'd personally put NSMBWii over DKC3, by far. To me, NSMBWii was good enough to put up there near SMB3 or World. But that's me.

Well it's been a while since I played LBP (shame on me!), but I don't remember ever complaining about it's precision or floatyness. What are those things people have said about it?

Actually, scratch what I said earlier. In terms of 2D platformers, LittleBigPlanet is king!

LBP2 was really good but it is still way too floaty for me to consider it one of the best.

Why is being floaty an issue? Surely that doesn't outweigh the game's infinite replay value, which other platformers haven't even come close to.

Control is absolutely paramount in a platformer, and floaty means less precision and hence annoyance.

lol i see someone tampered with the poll recently. Got to love how people cheat on these things. At least dont make it obvious by giving the same franchise 70 straight votes in a matter of a half hour lol

NSMBWii was good, but I wouldn't put it close to SMB3, World, or the DKC games myself.

Alright, and how does floaty = less precision?
