Time plays a role, most of this games would score lower by today's standard. Also the amount of illegitimate reviewers on Metacritic is ballooning

      I disagree 100%. I can play Mario Galaxy and enjoy it as much as 2007. Same goes to BioShock. They are simply amazing games.

Personally I wouldnt have GTA 4, Skyrim or Mass Effect 2 on there.....But thats just the way they reviewed :P

I agree. GTAIV at 98, and 97 at gamerankings, is the biggest joke ever. Should've been 80 tops, what a disappointment. Skyrim is way overrated too, I don't see how someone would give that storyless bugfest such a high score. Haven't played any of the Mass Effects so I don't know about those.

OT: Good going Naughty Dog, it seems like this game actually deserves such high scores. Still haven't bought it though, I guess I need to.

That's why I like the ABC rating system rather than the 1-10 system (or even worse the effective 100 point 1.0-10.0) system.  There's no such thing as a perfect score in ABC, A+ is simply the highest score you can ge, but still allows you to identify flaws, and even some pretty notable flaws, while still giving it A+. With a 10/10 you can't really talk about flaws, other than really minor things like the odd bit of texture pop in, without coming of as lacking credibility.

It's not for you to judge on behalf of others whether the ending is great or not. Let people play the game unspoiled and decide for themselves. You don't spoil, end of story.

Your niece watching the end  and saying "huh?" is hardly a valid critque of the end, if she didn't actually watch you play through at least 90% of the game then she'll have absolutely no appreciation for the significance of the final scene. And it would seem even after having played the game neither do you.

And to others: don't frickin' quote spoiled posts without deleting the frickin' spoily bits.
