It's not for you to judge on behalf of others whether the ending is great or not. Let people play the game unspoiled and decide for themselves. You don't spoil, end of story.
Your niece watching the end and saying "huh?" is hardly a valid critque of the end, if she didn't actually watch you play through at least 90% of the game then she'll have absolutely no appreciation for the significance of the final scene. And it would seem even after having played the game neither do you.
