Since when has the summer ever been considered an advantageous time? There is a reason most publishers avoid it. :/

What a totally surprising and awesome news. Such a beautiful game and i just don't mean the graphics. The soundtrack is so subtle and well done. Congrats Naughty Dog.
| Kresnik said: Pretty amusing reading the two "shipped" comments in here. I thought by now it was common knowledge that that's how it was counted. I mean, it's exactly what Square Enix did with Tomb Raider but I don't remember there being an uproar of "Omg it's shipped + downloads!!!" about that. Which brings me to the point I came here to make. The figure for TLOU is exactly the same as Tomb Raider. Yet, one is being touted as this massive success while the other is a game that succeeded but sold well below expectations. Just goes to show how out of touch Square Enix were with that game. And of course, massive congrats to the game, Naughty Dog & Sony. Another strong IP to add to the roster. And proof that a new IP this late into the gen can still be a big success. |
You are making the exact same mistake with this statement though...
You are right in noting both games shipped the same amount, around 3.4 mil, that much is obvious. But TR, sold a lot less than that. TLOU sales have not been updated yet, but while it hasn't sold 3.4, its probably more than TR has sold.
Companies use ''shipped'' in stead of sold just to please investors, especially if the company releases these figures within the first few days of the games launch.
Infact, it should be common knowledge that if a publisher announces that x game has sold x amount in its first 24 hours, (appart from big games like COD or Halo) you should pretty much expect that the game has underperformed. EA, Sqeenix and Capcom have done this plenty of times, only for them to announce a few weeks down the line that the sales were in fact disappointing.
P.S, didn't mean to derail the thread bringing in EA and all that, but I just wanted to make it a point that shipped results don't always mean a success. TLOU will not have this problem though.

I played 2 rounds and never went back. When i did play everyone crab walks around to be quiet, and you need to move in groups. It is also one of the few games on ps3 that have everyone using a mic, you may want to utilize one if you have it. You have to gather resources for your team, and you sneak around in groups trying to accomplish it. It just wasnt my kind of multiplayer game. Again i just played 2 rounds and didnt give it much of a chance tbh, but that is what i got out of it so far. I read where some really like it, so its worth a try if you havent yet.
wow barely a month and already about to beat 90% of those sales predictions for all of 2013

Nah, no one expected it to do this well (without mass bundelling ofcourse). |
lol exactly!
First they don't expect it to sell well without MASSIVE bundels, and then when it does sell well, all you hear is "was expected", "had no competition in the summer drought", "is shipped numbers" bla blah :D
Its hot but perhaps not as hot as Wii and Xbox 360 maybe due to piracy issue,
but PS3's original software sales is highest over here in Malaysia, maybe around 10:1.
Im calling five million by years end for this game. Can't wait for the sequel.
