The Wii U is magic and has quantum technology under its hood, he says.  Only his eyes are seeing properly and everyone else is wrong.

When I see 8th generation software (third party, obviously) running at a comparable level to the other 8th gen consoles, then I'll consider the Wii U part of that gen. As of now, not even the cross-gen or 7th gen ports are looking any better than the 360/PS3 versions, in some cases worse!

Well, as someone who owned SNES, N64 and Wii, and will buy WiiU eventually, I can say that I definitely don't hate Nintendo, and while I don't care for most of their IPs (well, nor for Sony's and MS', while we're at it), I do love Zelda and MK.

But that doesn't put tinted glasses on my eyes to disregard any logic or information that are out there about WiiU, or not to genuinely feel like it's badly designed console that negated everything Nintendo managed to achieve with Wii, while falling short of being 3rd party friendly, which Nintendo lauded so much about pre-launch.

Short answer: no.

The OP presents some "creative" reasoning in an attempt to either produce a logical argument, or attempt to make up an entertaining troll thread, but won't convince anyone.

To clarify: The Wii-U is an 8th gen console by simple merit of being among the 8th generation of consoles to reach the market. In terms of processing power and overall hardware specs, it is more on par with the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Better, but by no means in the same category as the Xbox One or the PS4 in terms of processing capability.

I'm not even going to dignify a rebuttal to the backwards logic that arrives at the conclusion that the PS4 is a 7th gen console.

It comes down to definitions. With the traditional meaning of the word "generation" the Wii U would be considered 8th gen. Somebody using the traditional definition who came to the conclusion that it was 7th gen wouldn't have a false opinion, because it wouldn't be an opinion at all. They'd just be wrong regarding a statement based around a particular definition. But a lot of gamers seem to have come to the consensus of an alternate definition for the word "generation" based around performance, which is fine (new words and definitions are invented by different cultures and groups all the time, their entire purpose is to describe something), so by their definition they would be correct.

This whole debate is stupid because it's just two different groups of people each using the same word (generation) to mean two different things.
