terrible. But luckily they have the rest of the year to fix the shit before the competitors. If they didn't oh man..... i'll say this, if all 3 next gen consoles came out the same time, the wii u will be in bigger shits than it is now.

U think that even if they delayed the console to holiday 2013 and had all these big holiday games as its launch lineup?

I did not consider that....

I still think they will stuck with the same terrible marketing strategy

Well to be fair they havent had any big games release this year so marketing wouldnt make much sense, Iit would just piss off the new people who buy a Wii U and realize there is no new games on the horizon.

Unless u mean those shitty dubstep commercials, I agree those were awful.

Yep.

besides they can use what they have. They had a mario game at launch and lego is fairly popular - there is no excuse for not pushing these titles along with others.

Ya but think of it this way, they advertise the hell out of it during the drought, people get interested and then find out there isnt any big new games coming for 3-4 months, they now are uninterested in the Wii U and wont consider getting it again. Or they can wait to advertise it when there is actually a reason to own it and people wont regret there purchase

i see your point.

So it is waiting game until the bigger titles come up. There will be no excuse when december comes :P

The lack of marketing is a massive part of the problem here....

I may just be making this up but I think Iwata stated they would have a new marketing campaign starting when Pikmin 3 launches In August, I wpuld have to assume that will continue throughout the holiday season when the bigger titles start coming.

When the Wii U launched, it didn't look much better than the PS3 technically. It still doesn't, based on the retail titles available. It sucked compared to the consoles already on the market. Now, when the Wii U finally comes into its own, it will suck compared to the PS4 and Xbox One. The Wii U never had its chance to shine. Even the Dreamcast had about one year to be the most impressive console on the market.

They've already got Pikmin 3 commercials going in Japan so this sounds legit.

They didn't do much, and what they did do was terrible lazy work imo. I mean, those add campaigns were... best to forget about them actually. but they're starting to improve with the best buy e3 experiences, thats a good idea imo

How many 360s sold in that first year where they had the market to themselves? I know they planned on selling 10 million but I think they sold something like 5 or 6 million before the PS3 and Wii hit. If that's the case, there's still hope for the Wii U but damn, Nintendo should have done so much better.

The 360 was at almost 6m units on its one year anniversary (Nov 2006) and about 8m by the end of 2006. While I don't doubt that WiiU will be able to match or even exceed that by the end of the year, the 360 never had weekly sales as low as WiiU has had for most of this year.

Nintendo certainly squandered their lead badly, no doubt about it.

Finally sense...I think even Nintendo are (surprisingly) aware that they fucked up the wii u's launch timing but know they can't do anything about it now until the games are ready. I would assume their plan is to start a more aggressive advertising campaign leading up to the end of year/ game releases etc when they actually have something to sell...hope to gain some momentum then.
