How has Nintendo done with their 1 year lead?

How many 360s sold in that first year where they had the market to themselves? I know they planned on selling 10 million but I think they sold something like 5 or 6 million before the PS3 and Wii hit. If that's the case, there's still hope for the Wii U but damn, Nintendo should have done so much better.
