The 360 was at almost 6m units on its one year anniversary (Nov 2006) and about 8m by the end of 2006. While I don't doubt that WiiU will be able to match or even exceed that by the end of the year, the 360 never had weekly sales as low as WiiU has had for most of this year.
Nintendo certainly squandered their lead badly, no doubt about it.
