And I quote Intel:
"With our next-generation Xeon Scalable processors, we expect to continue offering the highest core and system performance versus AMD. AMD’s approach of stitching together 4 desktop die in a processor is expected to lead to inconsistent performance and other deployment complexities in the data center."

Holy shit lol, that has the subtlety of a brick to the face.

The irony is that Intel used multiple dies "stitched together" multiple times. The Yorkfield based Quad-core chips (Xeons included) being a Prime example where Intel "stitched together" two dual core chips.

Same went with Clovertown, Harpertown and Tigerton.

So they aren't speaking from ignorance.

Although AMD's interconnect "Mesh" is substantially more advanced than anything Intel used when dealing with multiple dies on a single substrate.

With that, Intel is in full damage control at the moment. And for good reason. Ryzen/Epyc is beastly and consumers are eating them up.

Needs more frequency and timing optimizations. With Zen 2 I think AMD will be golden ...

AMD should stop investing some more in the original Zen and treat that as an experiment that went horribly good like Intel's knights Corner line and start focusing on pushing out Zen 2 by 2H 2018 ...

It'll be the greatest day for AMD If Zen 2 can hit 5 GHz, support AVX-512 (like Skylake-X/SP) and TSX while getting some IPC improvements when we can finally put Pentiums, Celerons and i3's on death row or at least reform them ...

If AMD can do all that then they also need to get globalfoundries shit together with high wafer supply to be able to flood the markets wih sub $100 high performing Zen 2 CPUs like China or other developing regions ...

I think there will be an improved Zen next year with ~10% higher frequency and higher memory speeds, perhaps just before Cannon Lake if Intel's 10 nm comes relatively yearly, but I don't see a 7 nm Zen 2 before mid 2019, unless the improved Zen on 14 nm really is an architectural change.

Besides, since we know Zeppelin with have up to 48 cores, it seems like the Zen 2 CCX will have 6 cores instead of 4 cores (it wouldn't make much sense for the die to have 6 CCX given the way they work). So, I would guess Zen 2 will have 6, 9 and 12 core products on the consumer range. Would it be the first 9-core CPU, if it is the case?

That's my take as well. Frequency seems to be a hard wall that AMD can't push over at the moment, likely a result of being on an inferior process compared to Intel's 14nm.
The architecture should come into it's own now that they know what needs to be improved.

Let's see how Threadripper does with twice the DRAM bandwidth. For professional markets, servers, workstations, compute, super coputers... Sometimes more cores is better than frequency anyway.

I would think AMD has gained a big chunk of marketshare with Zen, which hopefully results in some profits... Which they really really need to fund their next adventures and start getting their Radeon group back on track.

I would assume Zen+/Zen 2 would share the same socket, so hopefully they iterate often and substantually.

Software could also start catching up and start being heavier threaded also. I wish dual-cores would die a horrible death already. Some games won't even boot anymore if you only have 2 threads.

We should get Zen+/Zen 2 next year in 2018.

I think AMD's goal is to start iterating upon their chips on a yearly cadence now.

CEO of AMD, Dr. Lisa Su did a "Ask me anything" on reddit and stated they have a big team working on Zens successor.

CPU designs take a long time, Zen was being worked on as far back as 2012 and unveilved in 2015, so zens successor has likely been planned and worked on for a few years already.

Square Enix congratulates Denuvo: “Thanks to you, people have to buy the game”
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/square-enix-congratulates-denuvo-thanks-to-you-people-have-to-buy-the-game/
Now here is something interesting. At Denuvo’s official website, there are three companies congratulating it. These three companies are: id Software, Crytek and Square Enix. And while id Software’s and Crytek’s comments are kind of neutral (after all, id Software has removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from DOOM), Square Enix’s comment is a bit more… salty?

Wonderful point-and-click adventure Machinarium has been rebuilt with hi-res support and more
http://www.pcgamer.com/wonderful-point-and-click-adventure-machinarium-has-been-rebuilt-with-hi-res-support-and-more/
Machinarium, the point-and-click adventure about a bug-eyed robot named Josef and his girlfriend Berta, was originally released in 2009 and is very good—in fact, it was the game that hooked me on Amanita Design's later work, including Botanicula and Samorost 3. But it hasn't aged particularly well, mainly because it was built using Adobe Flash. So Amanita has updated it with a completely redone "Definitive Version" that's now available on Steam.

Scanner Sombre VR mode now available in beta
http://www.pcgamer.com/scanner-sombre-vr-mode-now-available-in-beta/
Scanner Sombre, as it turns out, hasn't sold very well, at least compared to Introversion's previous game: the 2-million-copies-sold-and-counting Prison Architect. By comparison, the developer's first-person cave-mapping game Scanner Sombre has only rustled up around 6,000, or in the words of Introversion's Chris Delay, "It's bombed".

Secret World Legends is available to play now
http://www.pcgamer.com/secret-world-legends-is-available-to-play-now/
Funcom's innovative, real-world-ish MMO The Secret World relaunches as the free-to-play Secret World Legends on Monday June 26, at least officially. A 'head start' weekend is taking place right now, a weekend that was originally just going to be open to beta testers and owners of the original game, but that is now open to all (yes, including you, Steve). What I'm saying is that The Secret World Legends has launched a little early, and you can sign up here.

Rhythm platformer 140 adds new level in free update
http://www.pcgamer.com/rhythm-platformer-140-adds-new-level-in-free-update/
Jeppe Carlsen's rhythmic platformer 140 has just received a free update, around four years after the game came out. The update adds a new, "expansive" fourth level that features "original mechanics and a new boss fight", and that's not bad at all for the price of free. But the update bungs in a few other features, including cloud saving, trading cards, "less input lag and improved player character physics", and those are all nice things to have too.

Quake Champions will run through Steam, id Software confirms
http://www.pcgamer.com/quake-champions-will-run-through-steam-id-software-confirms/

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatchs-ptr-suggests-that-patch-113-may-usher-in-doomfist/
Doomfist is coming to Overwatch eventually – that much is certain. The ongoing dilemma among the game's hardcore is the question of when. But it looks like we may be closer to the answer than ever, because a crashlog for the current Public Test Region (which is running the game with the still-forthcoming 1.13 patch), references both Doomfist and "Summer Games".

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
